Uninstall HIDS and Install Halogen...

Ok, as some of you may know, I am selling my 2002 HID headlights:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=411858

After I sell these lights, I'm going to have to put the original stock halogens.

My question is, how hard is it to put back the original halogen headlights after I remove the hid headlights. So basically, removing hids, and installing halogen.

Do you recommend taking it to a shop or is it a simple a job?

Thanks a bunch.

I noticed that you have a 2000 Maxima and you stated that you bought them from the junkyard. If you don't mind me asking, who put them in ? Isn't it just the reverse ?

Why would you go back to Halogen is my question? If it's because your HID's keep gettin sniped out by hooligans at least get an HID kit for the original headlight housings.

Just my personal opinion....once I turned my '02 Maxima's headlights on for the first time...I knew that was the end of an era for me. The end of the Halogen Era!!

I guess you guys didn't read the sale section for the headlights.

THE MAXIMA IS NO LONGER MINE. IT IS MY FATHER'S CAR.

I HAVE NO REASON TO HAVE HIDS IF I DO NOT OWN THE CAR ANYMORE.

and for the junkyard question, I just bought them after they were taken off a salvaged maxima. The guy didn't know how to install them. I got them installed at APG autosports in Albany NY, thats where I went to college.

I am talking about the wiring of the halogens. I remember the guy going through a big mess when he took the halogens out and installed the hids. As I remember, it took him an hour to install it.

So if it's that much work to put it on, i don't think I can just "match up the color" and put it back the original halogens. The guy told me he had to change the electrical wires for the ballast, and now that I'm removing the ballast, I'm not quite sure how to revert it back.

I guess I'll just take it to a shop and have them do it. Thanks anyways.

The wires coming from your original H4 wirings are color coded. Just match those colors and you're good to go. Driver's side and passenger's side have different colors. So you won't go wrong if you match them up properly. Good luck.

Ummm....It's not quite as simple as one might think. The HID's have a seperate wiring scheme for the high beams since it is one unit, whereas the halogens use two wires for the high beam because it's used in the 2nd filament of the H4 bulb. So, if converting from the HID's to the halogens, another wire must be tapped into the light switch or relay (not sure which one) in order for the high beams to work. I noticed this conversion when I converted from the halogens to the HID's, I had to lose a high beam wire to wire the HID's. The grounding scheme in making the lights come on in the 2K-2K1's are slightly different than the 2K2-2K3's.

You lose the high beam because you don't know how to wire it up properly.

Yeah, what I meant was that you lose the LOW BEAM wire from the 2K-2K1 stock harness H4 bulb. You don't need this wire to install the HID's. The high beam wires are used, but wired in a different way. I heard some have the high beams stay on with the low beams (when high beams are turned on), and also have the low beams (HID) flash with the high beam passing signal when the headlamps are in the off position. I have mine wired to flash with the high beams only when headlamps are off. Sorry for the mixup.

Thank you Dr. Roy and MixxMaxx for knowing what I was talking about.

Thanks Dr. Roy.
