What is the real fix for front brakes on 2000 Max SE? Getting frustrated
Hello all,
I need some help. My wife's 2000 Maxima SE continues to have front brake issues. The car currently has 93K on it and is an auto if it matters.
We bought the car new back in 2000. With about 15,000 on it, the front end started shaking when slowing down from highway speeds. We took it in for service and they cut the front rotors. This resolved the issue, at least until about another 10-15K. At that point the problem was back. Again a trip to the dealer and again they cut the rotors. I then asked if this was a common issue and they kind of indicated that it was a known issue with the 2000's.
I then turned to this board to find out that we were not alone, and that in fact it was a known issue. Around 50,000 miles the issue came back up and the dealer said they don't know how much more they could do for us, even though we had the extended warranty through Nissan! I was not happy at this point and said, come on now, this has been an issue since 10K miles and all you do to resolve the issue is cut the front rotors, and on top of that you have admitted that it's a know issue. They said we can "good will it for you" and put on brand new rotors and pads and sent us on our way.
To no surprise the issue came back up again around 70,000 miles, so I said enough I am going to buy new after market rotors and pads. I ended up buying Brembo rotors, nothing special just replacement rotors. I also bought the updated Nissan brake pads from one of the guys on the board that works at Nissan. The other day my wife again started to complain about the car shaking when slowing down from highway speeds. So it appears the issue is back.
What do I need to do in order to put this issue to rest for good? Do I need to go with an after market brake pad? Do I need new calipers? Has anyone had this issue and as consistently as I have? Before you all ask about my wife’s driving habits she is a really good driver and let’s the engine do most of the braking on the highway and is not a brake taper or a brake slammer. She is easy on the car and most of her miles are highway. Just to give you an idea I took off her rear rotors yesterday and I would say she has about 70% life left on the pads at 93K.
Thanks for any help!!!!
John

Hey I went through this as well as soon as I bought my car, original rotors were cut twice to no avail. I then bought some Stillen XDrilled and they too warped within a few months. Finally I bought slotted Powerslots and they have been great for the past 2 years., I have them paired with Porterfield R4S's.
Everyone has different experiences with diff rotors/pads. It's sad that there really isnt any consistency.
