Acura TLS
#10
Uhh...when I drove BOTH the Acura TL (3.2, not Type S) and the 2k Maxima GLE at Edmunds Live! driving event, the TL beat the Maxima in all categories, hands down. It had tighter, more predictable handling, and a stronger engine. The Max was good, but way too much body roll (GLE isn't all that far from an SE, so assume they are about equal). So, where do you people get the idea that the Maxima will burn a TL in the twisties? Added to that, the TL-S has slightly firmer suspension than the normal TL.

according to edmunds.com...a 2000 maxima SE has a roadholding index (skidpad rating) of .85...the acura pulls a .78
the acura also pulled a 7.7 0-60 time and a 137 foot braking distance from 60
since they do not have an automatic maxima (they use the 5spd times for the gle/gxe) i will report magazine times...magazines have said anywhere from 7.2-8.1 0-60 and according to edmunds, the maxima has a 126 foot 60-0 braking distance (11 feet is a lot btw)
i think in straight aways, it will be a fairly close race...from personal experience (i raced a stock 3.2 TL when i was fully stock...i pulled on him a lot and by about 100mph i was about 4 or 5 cars ahead)...i think if he was a little bit more skillful it would have been much closer...but i do agree that a max will walk all over the acura in the twisties...the se's handling differs quite a bit from the gle...the ride is stiffer and there are added stabilizer bars (in the front grill you can see 2 of them)
the two cars are fairly close in many categories, and the tl wins for luxury (in my opinion), but as far as performance goes, the max comes out on top
