ECU reset a sick joke?

okay i spent about a half hour following the instructions in the faq on how to reset the ecu. is this someones idea of a joke? never once did the cel flash or anything resembling what should happen, happen. isnt there an easier way? i know in other cars you can yank certain fuses or relays. anything?

well maybe your timing just sucks, i know the method works on my moms G35, and my friends with 5.5 gens it has worked for them. get a better stop watch grab a beer, and relax when you do it.

The timing is the tricky part. The first time I tried it, I gave up. I tried a few weeks later and I got the hang of it. It definitely works if you follow the steps exactly.

Works for me. I still never get it on the first try. Practice, you will get it. BTW, I share your feeling of the seqeunce being a joke. Why can't it be something simple like, up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-b-a-b-a-select-start. I may be dating myself here.

Reset the clock in the instrument cluster and hold the button before you shut the car down...then use it to time the procedure. I can do it in my sleep

After resetting the ECU, my car drove worse and got less fuel economy. It returned to normal after a few weeks.

Yeah, I had the same battle a few weeks ago.. I finally got fed up and just took my car to autozone, where he hooked up the little laptop, walked over to my gas tank, tightened the gas cap, and said "fixed!"

Learning the process by memory would be a good start. That way you can concentrate on the seconds not the words.

on a side note, im not getting any codes or anything, i was thinking a reset was in order after putting on an intake and exhaust. but the car learns on its own anyways right?

my idle is weird......sometimes its faster than 1000rpm, sometimes its right where it should be. usually when i start it after its been sitting for a whlie, it idles fast.....once it runs for a lil bit, its back to normal. is this the MAF?

Its normal for it to idle higher when you first start it after it has been sitting a while.

There's no reason to reset the ECU after any aftermarket part is installed.
