No i'm not....I have to work that day

I never personally heard the 5th gen VIAS open up....but i know for sure the 5.5 gens are REAL loud....I ran a local 350z a couple months back...and I only had an intake and so did he....we were dead even till 100mph...my front bumper was at his rear only becuz he opened up first....after we ran he asked me if I was str8 piped becuz of how loud my car was....

My friend with a 2k5 rsx-s just bought an AEM v2...and those RSX-S have a real loud switch over like us 5.5 gens...but he still complimented me sayin "I think your switch over is still louder than mine"

MEVI = Middle Eastern Variable Intake (only available for the vq30DE on the 4gen)

VIAS = Variable Induction Air control System

Steven: the changeover shouldnt make any additional noise....

well...usually, there is a ever-so-slight audible difference due to the intake resonance changing wavelengths...like on the MEVI for 4th gen's as I remember mine, I can hear a difference...it was louder when I had my frankencar intake on...then went I put the stock resonator section back...I could still hear it...albeit...it was much quieter....it's just nice to know it's working by hearing it! anyway, I just thought the composite VIAS on the 5th gen VQ-K's would be equally as audible in it's changeover as the MEVI's...

I just reinstalled my JWT/Frankencar intake yesterday, along with a new MAF. When I revved it up past 5K RPM, it sure as hell sounded different when the secondaries kicked in, along a nice little surge in power.

In order for there to be a change in sound, you need to make sure your VIAS is working properly and opens/closes all the way.

IMO, the audible difference at the switchover is all mental. However, what i've noticed on dynos and also my own car is that the higher the rpm (5700+), as more air enters the chamber and causing more resonance it gets incredibly louder by increments to the point you think the car is going to explode. This is especially true for 5.5 gens and for mine from 6500-7100 rpm

My MEVI was much more noticeable after the mid-pipe, same with the 3.5L.. That will change soon

I rode in a friends 2k and call me crazy, but it sounded like it opened at different RPMs in different gears. Auto trans.

1st was like 5800, and 2nd seemed ~5000. But it was only one ride a few years ago after installing a berk.

Steven- RSX is making all that noise cause of I-VTEC kicking in.

On a DE-K with a short ram intake (like Berk) you can hear a slight change in tone when the engine spins over 5200RPM. I can't hear mine with the CAI, but I know its working- its a brand new intake manifold, thanx Nissan

I remember GSR's having Vi's also, but they open ~ 4500 I think .. not sure.

RSX has a VI also, but 90% of the noise you hear is from the BIG cam kickin in. GS-Rs are POS compared to RSXs anyways. K20C1 can make some very big power, but they have issues with rod knocks lately, alot of them which go around corners alot- road racers, are fiding out that the stock oil pick up sucks, and the aftermarket solutions are making things even worse. I frequent the RSX boards alot ( I do RSX build ups on the side) since I'm a Acura tech, and one guy already had 2 rod bearing issues on his car, and few other guys has some problems also. S2000s are similar thing...

Maxima- content, I drove my Maxie for 1st time since Friday and it was nice to feel the power and slot car like handling again

e55- i don't understand...mine makes a very loud switch over...everybody whos driven my car and myself says so...you should agree too becuz I know you have an intake....an intake for a 5.5 gen dramatically increases switch over noise at VI....

when I did a 5th gear pull at around 6,000rpms...it seems like the engine was going to explode....the sound up there is to die for...especially with intake and cattman headers....its pure ectascy as blackbird would say

so are you sayin that it makes the exact same decibles as it would at 4k (when VI opens) to 6.6k? except with a different tone to it? or how about a comparison between 4k and 5k? still the same volume but different tone?

apparently mine isn't like yours then...becuz the volume AND tone becomes VERY different after the VI opens

Not at all

The initial question was...was there a notable difference before/after vias switchover (just befor 3800 and just after 4200). Decibel wise there is absolutely no difference..tone wise there is. now beyond that range, of course it will be louder and more urgent.....

its kinda hard to tell the decibel level without some sort of presision insturments. because the tone does change, we may perceive the difference as being different tone, AND louder.

My 2K doesn't really make much extra noise, although it is a *little* louder. You really have to listen for it though. The VIAS is definitely in perfect working shape so I know it's good.
(It does haul ***** from 3000+, but ~5200+ it's relentless. This is with a Place Racing CAI with a newly cleaned/reoiled filter FYI)
