Machinned Rotors, clanking noise??

Need help.. I resurfaced rotors, i think they are OEMs. Put them in with new OEM pads. When I break i hear clanking noise from them. Sounds like pads are moving around and hitting the caliper. I didn't replace the shims, reused the old ones. Also, there is no noise when backing up.

The rotors have tiny grooves on them from machining. Looks like an old sound record. Could that be it?? Could that cause the pads to be caught and snap back in place..

Anyone had this problem.. This is pretty annoying..

Thanks

Check to make sure that all four caliper bolts are in place. Then uncap your brake fluid resevoir, press brake pedal all the way down, maybe a couple times, cap. try again.

What is that supposed to do? Breaks work good. When I press pedal, the car stops fine. No judder anymore from uneven rotors..
But I'll try that, thanks..

if you have the factory ones it will happen again a few weeks... the design of thr rotor is so chea that no matter what you do they will warp agaim and again. The noise is becaus of the resurface...... I had a Quest ands they redurface the rotors and it stsrted to make the "Clunk" noise, went back..under warranty and they replace the rotors... noise gone... Whenever you can get a new set of Powerslot and forget abput replacong them in years...... I had mine for over 2 years and still going.....my .02

I know they will warp soon, The only reason i cut them to use last set of OEM pads I had, and when time comes to replace rears, I was going to upgrade all four corners. But in the mean time, I wanted to get rid of judder, so i cut them, put them on, and now its baning like crazy once start braking. Doesn't do it when press slightly on the breaks.

If you upgrade your rotors you can still use your OEM pads... don't see why not.... some people say things but you should be fine with new rotors and OEM pads.... good luck....

I couldn't take the banging noise anymore. When I would stop at red light, everyone was stearing at me. I pulled the old break pads out of the trash can, cleaned them well, put them on, and the banging is gone.

New pads I got from nissan-parts-dealer.com. The part number on the box is correct, same as on some other sites. However, some other nissan sites have different last 5 digits of the part number.
Also, on the back of the pads, old ones had written "Hitachi HP60 FF". New ones have "HP62 FF". I wonder if that makes a difference?

Anyone know correct part number for front pads for 2000 max?

Sorry bo - can't help you there. You might want to check the springs and hardware that hold the pads in place under the caliper - if it's loose, the pads will shift back and forth, creating a clunking sound

How often should you replace hardware (shims, etc).?? I don't think i have replaced mine in a while. Do they make such a difference?

I have the same problem and I just had my 2 front discs replaced with OEM nissan rotors. It's frustrating as hell and I thought it was because the Calipers had a problem with the piston or pins seizing. Oh well, if anyone knows exactly what it is I would appreciate it... I'll bring it back to nissan and B%$TCH

What kind of pads are you putting in? and if you are using nissan OEMs, whats their part number??? I bought a set of new hardware, will try to replace it back with new pads. However, I noticed that my old pads on one side starting to clank now.. Weird...

I'd guess that the retaining springs that hold the pads in place are worn/bent if you're hearing a 'clunking' noise. The pads shift forward when you brake (clunk), then settle back towards the rear of the car later (clunk). I'd say that when you replace the springs, the problem will go away - old, new, OEM or aftermarket pads - it shouldn't make a difference as long as the backing plate (metal portion) of the pad is the same shape and size.

Ok, replced all the hardware, even used some of that red stuff between the shims and pads. Still the same clanking noise. Now I think its the rotors' grooves, made on the cutting machine.. Maybe they could grab pad and push it forward or something, for the short distance that it can travel within the caliper..

Going to get Brembo blanks.

Has anyone had any of this. ITs pretty annoying..
Thanks

Hopefully, OEM nissan pads were used since I did bring it to the stealership for service. However, I wouldn't past the dealer to send the car off to a third party mechanic in lieu of paying the regular nissan rate since I bought the car from the used car lot of the dealer. So the short answer is, I don't know if they are genuine nissan pads or not. I guess your theory could be true if the pads are not OEM.

Did they check out your front suspension while you were at the stealership too? Could be something shifting besides brakes shifting up front... Believe me, Nissan can screw up on some pretty basic stuff - I started getting popping/clicking noises up front when I'd take off - turns out that they never torqued the front axle nuts down on my car at the factory - either side!!

When the car is lifted on jack stands, and i have someone put it in first and try to brake, I can see the damn pad shift and clank. Also, when I put my hand on the caliper, I can feel the noise and vibration from in. Trust me, its breaks..

So here is the fix to this.. Put Brembo blanks last night with Hawk HPS pads. took if for a ride, while bedding in the pads.. no problem at all.. Breaks got really hot, i did some short stops fropm 50 mph almost to stop. What I noticed, that pedal wasn't pulsing back, ABS, when I was doing this, I think I almost felt the tires sqeek. I wonder if ABS is working now..

But the good thing is, no more clanking while banging. I guess machined rotors or OEM pads were the cause..
