Bad bad day. How much for a new windsheild?

Hey whats up everyone... So i'm on my way to a new job and on my way a pebble hits my windsheild and now i got a crack. It's not as bad as it could be, but its bad. Its on the right-hand side of the car, right where the blackline starts on the edge of the window. Does anyone know where I can get an affordable windsheild? any help would be very appeciated.

Like everyone is saying, $0 with insurance coverage. Without insurance I've priced it from $240-$343 (with a compass mirror).

mine got smashed a while ago (back when I owned my 90 max) and I had minimal insurance so I had to pay for it. My advice is open the phone book and literally call everyone and get a quote. If one is higher than another - mention that, and they may try to price match it or offer better..

P.S. out of curiosity - if you break a window that has tint on it.. will insurance pay for that part too?

yeah no, not the windshield. but I have all the other windows tinted and was always curious if someone decided to smash it or whatever.. would I just have to eat the cost of the tinting? Or would the insurance company be so kind as to pay for the window (which they would do regardless with my coverage plan) and also put the tint back on?

depends on your deductible. I have $500 deductible so I just paid out of my pocket $150 or $200 for my other car.

had mine done last week. it cost $198.oo at a glass replacement chain in colorado. it used to be that you could get the glass people to eat $100 off the top. but the guy at the glass place told me it was now illegal to do this in colorado. it might be illegal now everywhere in the US, but two years ago in maine they did this. and i think i had one done in massachusetts for $100.oo off, too. so each of those cost me $100.oo out of my pocket, no insurace. it sounds rediculous, but ask them if they will eat the first $100.oo, and see what they say.

Mine cracked two weeks ago and it was fixed for free about 18 hours after it happened. All glass is covered in MA for zero cost and the insurance company asked what glass company I wanted and they called them for me and everything. It was installed in the garage at work and was ready for me when i went to leave. I asked about the tint just because I was curious and they said it wouldn't be covered because it didn't come tinted factory which makes total sense. Maybe if you reported your tint when you got it done to your insurance company they could somehow add it and then it might be covered if a window breaks, but I'm not sure. Good luck.

Okay I think the insurance company would cover it but they could possibly drop me from being a member. Once you have three different incidents they could drop you. I'm really not sure if i should report it. At first it was just a small inner crack but now it has sprend to the top of the window and I must get it fixed asap. Does anyone know a place in the NY area where i can get an affordable window and have it installed?

if the crack is shorter than 18" you can usually have it repaired vs. having the whole glass replaced.

Depends on whats tinted...when my car got broken into the insurance didn't cover it because "it was not support under utah law" (5% front windows) so I think anything that is legal I think they cover.

I almost didn't get the same hu put back in....the adjuster told me that "he didn't think I paid for a 600.00 hu" So I went home, and sent him links of the hu I had in my car and then a link to clarion and then they put a new one back in....insurance companies are crooks, I hate them. Im just glad my stuff was covered. Sorry to go offtopic, still makes me mad that I almost didn't get my crap put back in.

I have a connection in Brooklyn. RIght off the BQE, by Williamsburg in the industrial area. Everyone around me wanted $175 for a windshield on my Pontiac Grand Am (1994) and this guy did it for me for $100!!!!!! Gave the dude a $5.00 tip and he was happy as a cat. I didn't like how he was doing the removal of the glass, pretty barbaric but I didn't care since it was my commuter car. If you want to chance it, let me know.

you might end up paying a higher insurance rate if you make them take care of it though. (insurance take care of it).

Well, I also just got a cracked windshield. But its not that bad and maybe i could just repair it. But I was wondering if there are any tutorials online on how to replace the windshield by yourself.

Thanks

You should have checked it out through insurance. I don't know what your comprehensive deductible is, but I don't think a claim on comprehensive would adversely affect your insurance coverage going forward with that insurance provider. However, it may be that your deductible is more than what you paid.
