Kevlo check the PCV valve and make sure it's not clogged. My air line catch can stopped filling up for a while and when I went to service the DEK manifold last week the PCV valve was clogged. Now that I have a good PCV valve on it, it's slowly filling up again. I think our setup prematurely causes PCV valves to clog up faster than normal, something to consider I guess.

That was a joke. No air compressor is used in this set up. Only oil separator is used. These oil separators are used on compressed air lines to remove moisture from it, hence the air compressor joke...

I don’t understand this, say you make and install this oil catch reservoir. What do you need it for anyways, just to collect oil?

yes, to collect oil so it doesn't reach your intake manifold to gunk things up or mix up with your fuel

nice mod irish, definitely something to consider. thanks

So, basically, it increases hp and torque?

u wont get increased hp+tq...but u might re-gain lost HP....when the oil mixes with the fuel, it reduces octane...and when it does, it could allow the engine to ping...timing is pulled back and so is HP...if u install this catch can, oil will not get mixed with fuel therefore u won't ping, therefore timing won't get pulled back...and there comes back your lost HP when u originally didn't have the catch can

Just completed my version of this mod. Pretty much followed Irish's idea...Home Depot for parts. I re-used the OEM hose and screwed the filter into the metal shelf under that plastic cover.

Looks nice and neat!

I got a question to you guys, what if I disconnect this hose and let the oil drip under the car, will it do the same thing?

no, they're standard air hose fittings, threaded into the reservoir....they should be hanging nearby in the air compressor section.

Brass plumbing fittings may also be used. 3/8" hose barb - 3/8" MNPT.

well, if you like oil being sprayed all over the place. At WOT, it's not a "drip"...it's a "spray" of oil....

About 3' of 7/16 hose. Irish posted that in the first post. I'd get new hose, just to have new components when doing a mod.

Maybe I'm missing it, but both hoses need to be connected to their original location--one to the PCV, the other to the vacuum source. If you disconnect one of the hoses (presumably the vacuum side) to drain the oil, you'll induce a vacuum leak, but that could be plugged I guess. And like Irish said, it would make a mess.

I'm just curious how long it takes to fill up the reservior.

I've tried this mod on my SC* and I had to drain it too often for my liking. Maybe boosted applications just blow more oil.

*Thunderbird SC: the other end of the PCV connects to the supercharger outlet tubing and the oil usually collects in the IC.

Here is a pic of my set up. I've had it on for a month or so now and they seem to fill up pretty quick that's why I added another resivoir. Thinking about getting the BIG resivoir from Home Depot.

Thanks.... it's left over from when I installed a water softener in my home. I figured what the heck, it's worked out and gave me a chance to see just how much oil is really "blowing by". There was still oil going back into the manifold with the one resivoir so I added another and it seems to catch all of it now.

It's really easy, there are a few how to's here. Just follow them and you'll be fine. You've always got the org to help you out if you get in a jam.

save yourselves the fustration and buy a universal oil catch canister from weapon R. Idon't believe it comes with the 3/8 or 7/16 inch hosae and adaptors you would have to contact weapon R themselves

So kcowden, has your setup eliminated (to your satisfaction) any pinging you were experiencing?

Yes, once you see the amount of oil that is just being poured back into the intake manifold you will understand why carbon build up, which is one cause of pinging, is such a problem with our engines. I feel that in order to eliminate/reduce the amount of pinging in our cars that you have to implement some or all of the possible solutions discussed here. There are numerous threads on this topic, I'm sure Puppetmaster can provide a few since he is the "master of teh search" Anyway, as much as our cars are the same they are all different. We live, drive, get gas, communte, treat our cars differently, so trying to figure out what may work for one may not work for another. Sorry for the long winded response but this was the easiest way to say it. Good luck

Aside from the synthetics eating through some of the catch cans, is there a reason that people aren't just dumping the caught oil back into their crankcases? Am I missing something? How are you all disposing of the oil?

Probably because it's soaked in gasoline and is probably nasty. I'd rather dump it and put fresh oil back in to compensate.

Check out my updated post on the ebay catch can:

If you buy one, pay the money and get a good one. Lesson learned.
