Speedometer problems help!

hey wassup guys, well these past two weeks my speedometer has not been working 100%....it gets stuck at around 60 and most of the time it doesnt go past that, and when i stop it stays at 60......anyone got a solution for this problem>??

on a side note: do the 01, 02,03 speedometers plug and play to an 00 maxima?? And one last question. if i where to just buy a new one regardless of year (given the newer years work on mine) where or how can i reprogram the miles to match mine? thanks in advance!

Stop hijacking and create your own thread.

Onto Maxima112's problem. It sounds like the speed sensor is acting up. Do you see oddities with the odometer to?

My speed sensors went bad, you should be throwing a code because our speed sensors are in the front wheels.

if you pay close attention your rings have been misplaced..
same thing happened to me

take out your cluster.. and just fix the rings in place.. you should be fine..

Both the odometer and spedo feed off the the speed sensor. I would expect both instruments to go wonky if it was a problem with the sensor or the wiring. The speed sensor on my Shadow used to cut out once in a while. The spedo would stay stuck at the speed I was driving and my odometer would stop counting the miles

Since the odometer is working I would suspect the spedometer itself. You may have damaged or misaligned it as scopium suggests.

I am only certain that the 2001's are interchangable (because they are the same as an 01, not including the AE). Don't knpw about 5.5ers though.

the 00-01 are plug and play.. not the others..
also the cluster is a OUTPUT device ONLY it holds no memory of any kind. all that is stored in the ECU.
so whatever cluster you put into it.. it will show YOUR car mileage.

and Maxima112
just fix your rings.. and you will be set..

I think you are wrong. The mileage is stored in the cluster itself, not the ECU.

I know this post is over 15 years old. However, this is the only post I can find that describes my exact problem. My new to me 07 Maxima speedometer will ocassionally stick at 60 mph. I see someone mentioning the rings but im not sure what theyre referring to or how to fix it. Can someone please elborate. Also my fuel gauge on occasion will go all the way to full even though the fuel light and distance till empty display will stay accurate and working. Suggestions for a newbie and first time Maxima owner.

Hello Robsaun,

I have the exact same problems with my 07. Did you find a resolution?

The speedometer issue are definitely a Nissan issue throughout there entire lineup. I have a fuel gauge issue tested wiring and it's more than likely a print is failing so I'm about to add short small wires to bypass the printed circuit on the rear of the instrument cluster.
