earlier today I ripped open my precats to see if there was any chunks missing like Epacy's....the rear was healthy with no chunks missing...as for the front, I couldn't get the last two bolts which freakin pissed me off....I was using a 1ft breaker bar too...jeez that thing would just not budge...so I couldn't take a peek at my front precat

that is only for combustion pressure leaks, not oil leaks

removing the spark plug and inspecting it would be indicitave of wether its being burned or not...

That is the way I used to think.

Unfortunately that is not always an accurate way of telling whether you have an oil leak.

I pulled the plugs the day I received the engine to see what condition they were in. There was only a small amount of oil on one of the plugs. I was not to bothered by it. I figured I was good to go so the engine sat in my garage for several months while I rounded up parts I needed for my swap.

I didn't realize there was a problem until some time later when I purchased a leakdown tester to evaluate the health of another engine.

When the VQ35 tested so poorly on the leakdown, I decided to open it up and the pics in post 110 is what I found.

weird...i'v only used Fram's and never had a problem.
i have seen the filter test online and frams were close to the worst.
If you change your oil regularly it doesn't matter what filter you use.
FLAME away.
i buy cheap oil and cheap filters and my oil changes cost me 8 bucks. i change it every 3k or 3 months and i have NEVER once had a problem with burning oil or anything else engine related.

wow. . .this thread has been down for awhile. . .

so, the $64 question is. . .how many miles you have on your max? average driver seems to get the oil burning up around 80k...

So you responded to a thread that's been dead for over 1.5 years to argue about filters?
:attention
