Tranny or MAF...gears slipping

I was driving my car this morning I noticed something is really wrong with it.
I have no clue whether the maf sensor blew or if my tranny is slipping. the car switches from Park to reverse and to drive fine, but when i start to accelerate and the auto tranny tries to switch from 2nd to 3rd gear the tachometer needle climbs all the way to redline with out anytype of acceleration. I have a 2k gxe with about 55k on it, I just took it to the dealership about 2 weeks ago for servicing and they changed my transmission fluid. I dont know whats wrong

o yea it wasnt really a sudden thing, for the last month or so the switch from 2nd to 3rd used to slip slightly thats why i took it to the dealership 2 weeks ago and they told me nothing was wrong with it.

Check you tranny fluid level.

What happens if you place the gear in neutral and rev it to about 3k rpms, does it rev normally and properly? If so, I'm guessing its something with the tranny.

I doubt it is the MAF, it sounds more like a tranny problem to me.....

the tranny fluid level is at the bottom. like when you pull the stick out at the bottom where the word HOT is engraved in the stick thats where i see fluid but basically the whole stick is dry except for at the very bottom. i just put it in Neutral and reved it up a bit and it seemed to rev fine. If this is the tranny how much would something like that cost to repair??...my family has a older 3rd gen too but that tranny was totally shot before we did the rebuild, i think it wouldnt go in D at all...that costed like 1200.

If the oil level is fine, before you spend money on rebuilding the tranny, you could try using Lucas oil tranny additive (it is about 1 qt). It helped me on one of the cars I owned before. It got rid of the slippage...

Are you checking the fluid level right way? First thing you have to do is check it "cold" by warming the car(the engine needs to be cold before you do this) in park, after it gets to normal operating temp(needle is in the middle of the gauge) then check the 'cold' part of the stick. After you check it cold, drive the car around for about 5 minutes without putting any undue stress on the engine. Move into park on a flat surface and check the 'hot' part of the stick.

Sounds like low fluid. I had the same problem when the stealership flushed mine at 30k. The hose going to the tranny cooler wasn't put on properly and leaked most of my fluid before I left the lot. It behaved the same way.

I had the same problem. I notice my tranny slipping for about a month and I got scared so I went LI Maximum Tunning to get my SCer off and Jeff called me and told me "Hey woo u lost ur reverse gear and ur tranny is offcially done" so I had to get my tranny rebuild. It costed me 2G's. Hope everything goes well.
