Exhaust Banging Need Advice Please Help

What a total let down. I've been collecting parts to replace my rusted exhaust system. I bought a Warp Y a Budget B-pipe with resonator and a Flowmaster muffler. I had a Greddy cat back that worked great but started to rust through. So after 2 days of being in the shop I pick up my 02 Max and upon acceleration I hear sever banging. I never had this before. When I get home I called the shop but they were closed. I then got under the car and shook the muffler from side to side and saw that it is banging against the side of the car by the back tire (looks like some kinda of bracket for the strut but I'm not sure because it was a fast look. A guess its about 3 feet from the muffler. Has anyone had this problem and if so what is the fix?

Right before I took the car the mechanic said that I needed a rear motor mount and that will cause the exhaust to make some noise. Well it bangs like crazy! When I accelerate hard from first to second I always feel the torque steer. Is this normal on are 6 spd cars? I'm wondering if I need a new motor mount. However, he must have done a botched job too because I never had any banging with the Greddy exaust. Advice needed. Thanks in advance.

you need to see if they left the black crossmember near the y pipe on. if so, that will cause loud banging with even moderate acceleration. i remember two years back when blubyu had his 02. his warpspeed y pipe hit the crossmember and it sounded worse than when my cattman ypipe hit mine on my 01. you can either lower the crossmember by using longer bolts and a number of washers or you can simply remove it. my stock muffler will bang if i shake it enough but driving around typically does not move mine that much. check the exhaust hangers to make sure the pipe is supported.
as for the motor mount, how many miles do you have it and how hard is it driven?

my greddy evo2 would to bang against that bracket during the winter. i have had it on my car for a year and 2 months now, so when the winter comes back to indiana i think i will get the banging again.

My car has 54k and when I accelerate moderately hard between 1st and 2nd the wheel jerk. I don't know if that is normal torque steer or not. Also, is it ok to remove the front brace? What purpose does it serve. I also noticed that my 02 sensor is very low on the Y-pipe and the wire is close to the ppe. Is this OK? If I lower the brace what size spacers should I use?

Thanks

i had the same problem with the crossmember and i was almost ready to tear it all out and go stock till i realized that it was backwards. lo and behold its fixed! also ive heard people using hose clamps on their rubber hangars to stiffen it up and reducing the banging

DJ2max is correct....hose clamps will lift the ehxuast piping upwards so it won't hit the black crossmember....no need to go through all the trouble of installing washers and longer bolts to lower the cross member...just simply buy one hose clamp at the hardware store....then clamp it around the hanger where the bpipe bends....and your all done...installation takes no more than 5 minutes...

traderfjp, as for your motor mount question....try going under your car and examine each motor mount...you can eye ball it out if it's fine or not...my rear motor mount was shot to death....the jelly inside the metal sleeves were almost gone...so the bolt was moving freely and allowing my engine to rock back n forth easily...it almost made a clicking noise everytime i let off the throttle...

Thanks Steven88. I just thought it strange that my mechanic informs me about the mount when he is giving the car back after doing the install of the muffler. The new Y sits lower then the stock Y and he should have fixed it before giving it back. I also did a stupid thing by only buying one tire when my front tire got a bubble. Now the car pulls in the direction of the new tire. I'm going to try putting that tire on the back before looking into an alignment.
