P0135 Code...02 Sensor...Nissan vs. AutoZone

I have to replace the front 02 sensor bank 1 due to the p0135 code I recently pulled. My gas mileage has definitely been hurting and when I give it a good punch, there is black smoke which means it's running rich and I think the 02 sensor is the cause of that as well. Anyways, I get a good discount from Nissan because my neighbor owns a dealership. The parts guy there told me $108 including tax. A friend at work with a 4th gen maxima said to get one from autozone because it's basically the same thing and much cheaper. Sure enough, I called and it's $74.99 with a three month warranty. They use Bosch heated 02 sensors which I think is pretty good quality, but I'm not sure what Nissan uses. Does anybody know if there is a difference in quality. I just want to make sure there is no catch to buying the cheaper one. Thanks guys.

Bosch makes the OEM Nissan sensors. So no reason not to get it from autozone - make sure it has the OEM connector, o/wise you'll have to splice your old connector on it. You can also buy an OEM Bosch replacement for about 70 bucks from www.oxygensensors.com - mention maxima.org for a discount.

Is that the $65 one? I asked if it has the OEM connector and they said you have to splice the wires to the one currently in the car, but I don't think that should be a big deal. Did you do that, and if you did, was it difficult? I assume either way it's better than spending $120.

I didn't have to spend $120 on mine. And it was really nice to have the OEM connector as well as the placement clips to run it through the engine.
Do the ones from Autozone come with the placement clip and the correct length for each one?

Where did you get yours? I have heard from multiple people on PM and this thread that splicing it is easy and it's only $65 which is saving lots of money. I dont' care about the ease of an OEM clip if it saves me $40 or more.

I looked at that site last night and I see one for 63.99, but they say Denso and Walker. I don't see Bosch and I don't know if it's the right sensor for the p0135 (sensor 1, bank 1)? Could you direct me further. Thank you.

Also...i think this may be the confusion choosing between the specs at the menu... I'm 95% sure my car is Cali-spec.

thats what i was about to say. how do you know the o2 sensor is causing the problem?

isnt that p0135 a stuck on lean code, IIRC? you might have an intermittent condition thats causing an intermittent lean condition, the STFT goes positive and causes the black smoke on tip-in, but the condition doenst stay present long enough to cause a p0171/p0174.

ive seen it a few times, but more often than not, its the o2 sensor

No, there's a separate code for lean condition, such as P0151

So i'm pretty sure it's an 02 sensor and not just a condition because it has stayed on for a while.

Here's most of the 02 sensor codes for you to look at.

P0130 - Front O2 Sensor Circuit (Bank 1)
P0131 - Front O2 Sensor (Lean) (Bank 1)
P0132 - Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1)
P0133 - Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1)
P0134 - (2000-2001) Front O2 Sensor High Input (Bank 1)
P0134 - (2002-2003) Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1)
P0135 - Front O2 Sensor Heater (Bank 1)
P0137 - Rear O2 Sensor Low Input (Bank 1)
P0138 - Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1)
P0139 - Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1)
P0140 - Rear O2 Sensor High Input (Bank 1)
P0141 - Rear O2 Sensor Heater (Bank 1)
P0150 - Front O2 Sensor Circuit (Bank 2)
P0151 - Front O2 Sensor (Lean) (Bank 2)
P0152 - Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Circuit High Voltage (Bank 2)
P0153 - Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Circuit Slow Response (Bank 2)

You definitely need to replace that O2 sensor. Now that you posted the whole list, I can tell you it is the sensor before the cat, on the y-pipe closest to the firewall.

the light wont go back out until you get several cycles with no fault. per obdII

and yes, now that i take a look at the actual code, a heater fault isnt bades on an engine condition anyway, its based on the ckt resistance. as long as all the wires and connectors are good, its likely the o2 sensor.

i was confusing it with the 0131...

...meh
