i got 296 miles on 14.6 gallons, comes out to be about 20mpg. this was mostly highway, with a lot of hard driving, even so shouldnt be getting about 24 or 25 on mixed highway and street driving. whats the avegare you guys get? and what could cause this on a well maintaied 2k with 81k miles? thanx.

you think 18 is bad... i barley get 200 miles out of a full tank and i use 93+ octane. say 200 out of 15 gallons = 13.3 MPG!!! thats pathetic for a maxima, does anyone know what could be causing this, and i have a CAI whick is supposed to help a little this is mostly city with some highway driving. i pay $40 every 6 days to fill up my car

You are at about 11.5 L/100 km, so a little on the high side for my taste of hwy consumption... I assume you have auto... About 15-20% worse than me... Things that helped my gas consumption were new O2 sensors and new fuel filter...

I get pretty poor gas milage also. I say around 21mpg or 24. Mostly due to the intake on my system. The roar is cool, but it affects the wallet

21 to 24? Poor? What the f*ck people...that's what a Maxima is supposed to get. I get around 240 before the light pops up - and around 40% of the driving is city and I mean *real* city driving...where I stop every single block, literally.

Because people live in different states, with different types of traffic setups. In NYC, there's a stop sign, traffic light, yield sign and etc. on *every single block*. Where as in most other states and cities, that isn't the case. Naturally the people in the less populated states have better gas mileage, because you guys have:

1) Far less stop and go activity
2) Much better flowing traffic on the highway.

Obviously many people get bad gas mileage with maximas, they are fun cars.... In the winter, I was barely getting 200mpg. My record back at the end of June to the beginning of July was about 275 before the light came on while I was backing up to the pump. I drive pretty fast and I attribute bad gas mileage to that. I usually travel between 80 and 100mph on the highway. When I got my record mileage, I didn't go really above 75mph and I didn't accelerate hard either(auto). I'm doing that again with this gas tank with my berk intake. I have 50 miles on it and the meter isn't in the white line of the F yet which is pretty amazing I think. I'm trying to drive like my dad, *** slow. I've been leaving for places about 5 minutes earlier to see how many miles I can squeeze out of this tank. I don't stay above 2k rpm and never let the car go higher than 2.5k rmp while I accelerate. Just want to do it to see how much I can get from this tank.

When I first got my berk installed, I killed half a gas tank in 100 miles. It was worth it to hear it though...

I get 22mpg 50/50.....always...never gotten less than 21, never gotten more than 23, except one all-highway road trip to SC, where I got 25....and I am positive everything in my engine is in top shape and working correctly....

yup you were right because last week my main engine harness got messed up some how, so i had my car towed to nissan and they told me that it will cost me $1600 to replace it. i am really going broke because of this car but i love it. i am supposed to pick it up sometime this afternoon, so hopefully that well fix my gas milage up a little bit.

Never get less than 23mpg no matter what ambient temp. I don't drive easy either, the pep 3.0 sees many high revs. Gotta love the silky smooth and free rev gives the 3.0 some electric motor characters. I usually get 26+ highway driving with AC on and 80+ mph.

I get 26mpg with 80%HW 20% city and I drive it like I stole it. Maintain your car and you'll get decent mileage.

Sorry but I just had to say this... Your CAI increases the Volumetric Efficiency of your engine. Everytime you increase it, your gas mileage in theory goes down, not up. Extra power does not come for free, therefore your reduced gas mileage...

WRONG, increasing the volumetric efficiency does not lower gas mileage. It does allow for more air to enter the engine which allows more fuel to be burned. With your theory, someone with a clogged air filter would get great mileage.

A turbo/supercharger increases the volumetric efficiency, but also introduces paracistic losses. A CAI, only allows more air to enter the engine without introducing additional parascitic loss.

Why do members post their displeasure with a topic. Simply don't open up the thread and move on. If the topic has no merit it will die on its own. I just don't understand this behavior. Let the moderators spank us for being bad.

I agree. Over the course of years the same topics are going to come up on many occasions I'm sure. It is only the people that have been on here for an extremely long time that complain- everyone else relatively new (<1year) looks at these threads with interest.

This problem is exasperated by the inability for new members to easily search (other than the not-very-useful google method).

In short - I hope the max I purchase gets good mileage!

Are you trying to say "parasitic"?

Of, relating to, or characteristic of a parasite.
Caused by a parasite: parasitic diseases.

Yeah dude the problem is you car has a tapeworm that is eating your fuel. HA!! I don't get enough fiber and find it hard to poop so my intestine must have decreased volumetric load. The only possible way I can see to reduce my gas mileage that bad would be to only drive at WOT all the time. Take the car to the dealer and have them try to see what is going on or just send me a check if you feel like throwing more money out of the window. PM for address.

I get at least 350 miles on 16 gallons per fillup...I've hit 420 miles on 17 gallons before... I've got a 2000 Maxima, 170,000 miles, and a 5spd manual.

In the city I don't go above 2500rpms normally...I get relatively bad highway mileage because I don't have a 6th gear to decrease the RPMs...I run 70-75 mph at about 3000 RPMs.
