Help troubleshooting flasher relay? Have searched..

Hi,

The turn signal flasher on my 2K 5 speed has finally failed after being flaky the last 3 days. Emergency not working either. I searched and found some good info, but I'm not sure what to order/replace after looking around. I went to Advance Auto for grins and they indicated it's a dealer part.

The turn signal and emergency 10A fuses in the interior fuse panel are OK. You can hear a relay click on the drivers side when turn signal lever or emergency switch is pressed. I thought this was handled by the blue relay (too easy) on the interior fuse panel, so I pulled it, but can still hear the click. I then stuck my head under the drivers side panel and can see a black relay behind the fuse panel, but am not sure that's what I am hearing click. Hard to tell. I could not pull it too easily so I figured it was time to ask the forum.

I have 10K left on the 100K extended warranty, but I'm thinking this is easier and cheaper than $50 to fix myself? Thanks everyone!

P.S. I can't believe so few people recognize the old fashioned out the window hand signals! Thought I could use them to get by, but dayuuum....

its between the fuse panel and the DLC, its kinda pointing at a 45 degree angle towards the roof... if that helps. or you can post your email and ill send you the pic, i cant attatch it to the post.

So this relay is what I need to replace, or is it the hazard switch like some say? If I'm getting the relay click seems to me the hazard switch is probably OK. Will I have to get this from Nissan parts or might NAPA, etc. have one?

Thanks!

you got mail.

i pic and 2 diagrams.

you might have to do some testing to find out, but if you say the flasher just clicks once, its probably failed. bimetal strip not heating up or something.

good luck

I saw the pic and diagrams--fantastic. Right next to the blue relay--never saw it, will go look this AM. Hopefully this is something I can pick up from a dealer and swap out real quick for less than $25.

Thank you!

You just saved me an hour of research and probably 20 minutes on the phone. I have the dash panel off and can swap it out in 2 minutes tomorrow. Hopefully this will do it. Thanks!

This did the trick--an easy 10 minute fix. At a glance this looks like nothing more than a 555 timer type circuit with in/out relays to handle drivers.

taqke it apart. it may be a 555, but its usually a bimetal strip and the MFS is used to direct the signal
