Hey guys I had my Protorque TCer installed yesterday and it is awesome!! The transmission shop who did my install was so impressed with Protorque's professionalism and for making a torque converter that produces the stall speed that they claimed it would that he is going to start ordering converters from them. My stall speed has now been increased to 3000 rpm which makes for on heck of a good launch in my supercharged BABY!! I've found that I get the best launch by brake/torquing it to about 2500-2700 rpm. There is absolutely no more lag on my dead stop take offs and it pulls like a bat out of hell now all across the rpm band. Definitely worth the $$ ($395 = TCer 7 $325 = Labor for install). I get nominal tire spin even with a 2500-2700 rpm launch but that is probably b/c the Nitto Extremes really grip well. Great mod for any of you automatic guys out there. Now I just have to get my butt to the track to see how she performs in the 1/4 mile. I wanted to wait till I had everything done before going to the strip.

Congrats! That's exactly what I felt when I drove a Max with a TC.

How does the car feel during normal driving, specifically when you are driving on the highway at about 50-60, the transmission is in 4th and the RPMs are about 2K, and you decide to accelerate a little (5 MPH faster), do you need to press the gas pedal more than with the stock converter because you are now further below the stall speed or is it pretty much the same?
Do you feel any difference during city driving (35MPH or less), do you have to press the gas more to get the same acceleration as before at low RPMs?

It is almost not even noticeable under and driving conditions except when I floor it and then you feel the kick in your pants! I thought that I would notice a difference on dead stop (NORMAL) starts by having to press the gas pedal more but I really don't notice much of anything under these type of driving conditions. Protorque even told me that driveability would hardly be sacrificed with this particular torque converter since the stall speed hasn't been too dramatically changed. It's pretty much the best of both worlds as far as performance and every day driveability. (IMHO) I have noticed that the car seems to pull harder when under WOT!! Later.

To the wheels thus = much better acceleration from a dead stop and across the power band. It does not increase hp. With a higher stall speed you can launch an automatic maxima at a much higher rpm (in my case at 3000 rpms which is right at the beginning of my boost power band) thereby eliminating the "LAG" that our OEM transmissions with OEM torque converters are plagued with!! Watch out all you 5-speeds because I'll be able to launch right up there with you.

I would assume that gas mileage is affected, question is how much. I would assume that it is with a SC and since you had that before the TC it would be hard to tell how much gas mileage is afeected with the TC alone. Kev do you know. Sounds like a mod I might want after all down the road. How much was the TC and how much for labor?

No clue on the gas mileage thing, but I do want to say that us NorCal peeps can do TC installs at a very low cost.
