Need A Response... Fast!!!

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE with 60k miles on it.

But the trunk won't open with a key or with the electronic latch in the driver door. The key lock-cylinder looks to be jamned and the key wont even go in. And when using the electronic latch, you can hear the actuator working but it still wont open. So i'm guessing that the latch for the key is somehow jammed and not allowing it to open fully. Do I have to change the entire trunk lid or can have a new lock cylinder made from the key to replace the jammed one. How much would it cost?

My second question is for the front rotors/brakes. I recently changed the disc rotors in front but i'm still getting a grinding feeling when i'm braking. Any clues as to what is wrong?

Thanks
guys

Try using a dry lubricant in the lock cylinder before you spend the $$ to replace the cylinder. I bought some stuff called "TDL-The Dry Lubricant" from Home Depot for like $3 and it released six seized lock cylinders on my bike rack which spent last winter on the roof of my car. $3 might be worth a try.

Can't you open the trunk and examine the issue? Don't you have an opening into the trunk from inside the car? The car should have the trunk release safety tag inside (you know, if a kid got stuck in there he/she could get out)...

do that and check it...when i first bought my car, the trunk was locked for that valet thing, but even my master key wouldn't open it, so i had to go in through the seats and open it from the inside using that tag ^^he mentioned and after that, i turned off the valet lock and everything worked fine: the key, the remote, the switch, everything..

try WD40 or any kind of lube first before replacing the cylinder. cheap fixes are better than expensive ones if they accomplish the same thing.

ye what they said, as far as the brakes go, if u got the crappy oem rotors, u might have already warped them somehow, mayme the wheels are on too tight, maybe u washed the car when the rotors where hot as hell, more likely is that u changes the rotors without changing the pads and thats the problem, next time get brembo blaks instead of eom and that the last time ull ever buy rotors....maybe

changing the cylinder

Hey thanks for the replies...

I was also wondering if anyone knew if Nissan can replace the cylinder with the car VIN# to create a duplicate, cuz i really dont want to have two keys to the car. Thanks

most cars (not sure about nissan, youll have to call parts and confirm) use new cylinders with pin kits, and you assemble the cylinder with the pins to match your key.

So for the key cylinder in the trunk... does that mean i need to buy a new key. The Nissan mechanics told me i need they can't cut a cylinder from the VIN or key that I already have meaning I have to have a new key cylinder ($65) and another key chip programmed for the cylinder ($85). Anyway to avoid having another key?

I want to have a cylinder cut from the other key cylinders or key that I already have. Please HELP!!!

ALSO, Is it possible for the electronic latch not to work if the mechanical latch is messed up (due to the key cylinder being jammed)?

I just bought the car so i'm a little confused...

Thanks

the chip has nothing to do with the trunk...

a cylinder isnt 'cut', its 'pinned'

basically the litle pins have numbers on them, you put them in the right order, and your existing key work the cylinder. that the way MOST car MFGs do it. i dont know about nissan. call the parts department (or stop by) and check it out, ask if it can be pinned to match, if they dont know, take a look at one and see if it comes with a bunch of pins and springs.

first off, i would deffinately get inside your trunk and check the valet switch to make sure that that isnt your problem. its a little latch right next to the locking mechanism...not sure which way it has to be, but i know its in the forums somewhere.

second off, as stated earlier, you dont need a chip to open the trunk, and i know for a fact that you can re-pin any lock cylinder to fit the key you currently have...simply ask any locksmith...

if hes not using the valet key, he should be able to open the trunk regardless of the position of the switch.
