Strange starting noise

Hello. I got a 2000 Maxima. I recently noticed that after I start my car there are a couple of seconds of noise afterwards. It sounds as if you are starting to start a car that is already started. Some weird screeching noise. The thing is that it happened a couple of times (during very hot weather - 100 F outside) and went away.

Now I don't hear the noise. What could it be?

Thanks

Sounds like it could be your starter going or a belt screeching.

Well I was beginning to suspect the starter, but what about the belt. You mean the timing belt rubbing against something? Also, is this serious?

thanks

Not too serious, if the starter goes you can't start your car. If the belt breaks you can't start your car.

I'd have to hear it for myself to know what your problem is.

Hmm. Sounds like it could become serious. The sound is just like if you tried turning your key to the start position while the car was already started (accidentally of course). That's of course if you experienced this before.

Yea I know what you mean, I would have to say it's the starter. Buy hey, if it stopped doing it then just wait it out.

The stealership will charge about $375-$400 for a new timing belt. So be careful.

you suggested a belt screeching, so we arent talking about timing belts, since they dont screech. and he doesnt have one on his car anyway, AFAIK.

sooo... since were talking about accessory belts:

also labor on replacing the timing chain is 12.8 hours... youd be LUCKY to find someone to do it for $375-400

if you did have a belt, like my 91 for example, 6.6 x $90 = about $600 plus tax, plus parts.

again, youre getting a great deal, AND its cheaper than some bent valves...

What do you mean sticking ignition switch. I think that it is the starter not disengaging after starting the car.

The car might start fine later on but the things is that if you don't fix this it might do a lot more damage to your engine. At least that is what my mechanic told me.

Oh yeah, I brought the car to my mechanic and he said that I need to change my starter. So now I am waiting for a few days until that gets fixed.
