frankencar exhaust problem

I have hotshot headers installed with the frankencar cat back. The problem I am having is that when ever I go over bumps the muffler hits or the piping hits underneath the car. I was just wondering if anyone else that has that setup or similar has had any problems like mine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, I had that problem, too. I installed some clamps around the rubber hangars to help with tightening it up and also grinded some metal off just above the right corner of the muffler, but that thing is HEAVY!!! It still banged around a little bit. I actually sold mine and ended up getting another muffler because of it. I hope this helps.

I didn't grind the muffler. It was above it. Just wanted to clarify that so you didn't get the wrong idea.

I don't have the headers, but I do have the Frankencar catback and had the same problems as you. I used the clamps around the rubber hangers and still had some banging over large bumps. I just installed new rubber hangers from NAPA and they seem to be doing the trick. The OEM hangers had a hard time holding the heavy Frankencar muffler. Hope that helps!

Yeah i got heavier rubber mounts and new clamps from the shop that put on my exhasut from frankencar and it works like a charm! one question, my muffler, the left side tip seems to be putting out either all of the air or damn close to all of the exhaust. is that correct or is something wrong?

Never had such a problem with my Frankencar, even with OEM hangers... just use the NAPA hangers since those seem to work. If its banging on the cross brace, you can either just take it off, or put some washers on it to give yourself more clearance.

the banging is on a little lip of metal that sticks down and hits the rear driver's side edge of the muffler. I just took out the trusty dremel and ground it down some...problem solved.

Most of these problems can be solved by supporting the exhaust before you tighten it. Use some jack stands to hold the eshaust system upwards, then tighten everything. Mine is completely on stock hangers, has all of the cross members in place and has no clanging whatsoever.

it's a chambered muffler...very much like our stock muffler. At idle and low revs, most of the exhaust comes through one pipe, and at WOT, you get full blast out of both...have a buddy rev the engine up high and then see where it comes out.

thanks guys. I think I will try the napa hangers and see if that does the trick. If not then i'll have to bust out the grinder.
