Who cares ... no one really is into making the 5gen autos faster, only the 3.5L's ..and that's with good poimt b/c they're heavy and have heavy wheels, and that's just not so good for quick 1/4 mile bursts with the threshold of the 3.0L tq issue.

Damn, who would of thought a comment I made would get people so fired up! Ok guys, many people on the org know that the 5thgen autos arnt fast. I found out the hard way. However I still own it and it is my only car. I say if you want to prove people wrong provide data. I'm very interested in seeing 1/4 trap speeds even though this is not the drag racing part of the fourm.

For those who have never dynoed or been to a drag strip, please keep in mind no one will take you seriously w/out non-bias proof!!!!

Since no one ever seems to focus on the downsides of Evos, I will give you 10.

1. Maintenance is often, and expensive. Figure $1200+ for a new set of Advans every 10000-12000 miles, a new set of brake pads front and rear with new rotors (they cannot be machined) at the same times.
2. The driver's seat is uncomfortable at best. The back seat is miserably cramped compared to my 2k2 max. The interior feels cheap and low-rent. The driver's seat doesn't go back far enough either.
3. Mitsu dealers have a bad habit of denying warranty claims on Evos because "the car has been abused."
4. It rides like a tank. no, worse than a tank.
5. Unless you get the MR without the ricer wing you are just BEGGING to get pulled
over.
6. Priced auto insurance on an evo lately?
7. Requires 93 octane. $$$$$.
8. Stock lancer stereo system is teh ness.
9. Sport Compact Car thinks it's TEH BEST CAR EVAR!@%*!@ with the WRX STi. That = an instant badge of ness.
10. Gas tank is way too small. Tests show an ave. of 220-240 miles between fills.

I don't like them, but that's why I drive my 3.0L to work ..

Besides they're not that much different in MPG's .. Just the 3.5L gives you the right foot spasm urge more than the 3.0L does, but the 3.0L gives you the 7200 rpm itch more ... That's all ...

3.5 MPG

3.0 MPG

So the real question is how do you like your extra mpg in the city, but your lost mpg on the high way?

Raced an evo in the Max and lost, not by much. 3 weeks latter as luck would have it I ran into the same guy at the same traffic light, except this time I was on the Bike. Needless to say the story had a different ending this time around. I sure he is still picking the assfault out of his teeth. Not much to do with this thread, but I thought I would share that story of my EVO KILLER, He never had a chance

My 99 Civic SI had full exhaust, CAI, Type R ECU, suspension done, etc., just the basic stuff. I never claimed for that to be a racecar either, but my Max will sure blow that **** away, and I have not even done a thing to it yet. I understand that the automatic's are the slowest of Maximas, but I'm just saying that they can still be made into pretty quick contenders.

Put your money where your mouth is .. IIRC .. No one has really modded an auto 5th gen (N/A of course), most go with boost with auto 5th gens ...

But I bet you 3.5er's still wish you had the same resilience us 3.0er's have on our engine's. Pistons and rods that can support over 800 horses(Don't flame me, I can prove it! Yes, I realize that the probability of a 5 gen Max will ever pump out those kind of numbers is small), fewer ignition coil problems, and our auto's are more durable(according to what I've read on the forum).

Im a proud 3.0"er" and 3.5"er" .. So then this post is useless b/c I'm both...

So do you go around telling other 3.5L guys that your engine can support 800 hp ..? Or do you show them a slip of what YOUR street driven car runs/puts down?

I think I'm more at bay to say what each has to offer ...

The reason the 3.0 auto is more reliable is because it's the same tranny ... And the 3.5L has a smidge more torque.

3.5L is more notorious for MAF problems before coil problems, I think 00-01's have the coil/MAF combo problem ...

I was just saying how our rods and pistons can hold that much is pretty impressive and no I don't go around bragging about that.
VQ30 MAF=$100 VQ35 MAF= $450
http://superstreetonline.com/feature...505_topsecret/
And no I don't subscribe to Super Street Mag b/c their gay product pluggers!
Saw it on the newstand.
Smoky plucked a plus-size 4.5L VK45 V-8 from a Nissan Cima (our Infiniti Q45) to drive his Skyline. But a GT-R, be it from Nissan or Top Secret, just isn't a GT-R without some boost. To this end a matched set of HKS GT2835 turbos was plumbed into the mix. To handle the power, VQ30 rods and pistons were employed in the bottom end. Because a twin-turbo V-8 demands massive amounts of fuel and air, two Bosch fuel pumps force-feed Top Secret 720cc injectors while a pair of Pulsar throttle bodies brings in the air. The star of the air/fuel show is the Top Secret original surge tank intake manifold. This piece is so bad it's good, with its flawless finish and exquisite fabrication. Keeping everything cool like Fonzie is an ARC radiator and an intercooler set up in a righteous V-mount configuration. When the tuning is complete, Smoky estimates that his GT-R hybrid will put down in excess of 800 hp!
By the way, NMax did you get that wonderful poem I sent you?

And does his run decent times? Thats all I was trying to say. They do have potential and can out run some pretty mean cars given the correct setup.

I believe the majority of the headaches are avoidable if you are willing to take the time, spend the right amount of money not to cut corners or just throw the **** on and get it on the road like I see so many of these kids do.

I agree, but .. there's always a but, There are still many more variables that can go wrong, more than in an N/A application.

And some of us just have a 'thing/itchetc' for N/A performance. ..

I agree completely. But as I said, I have a slow azz auto. It's the only way that I will put down decent #'s. Plus, the 2000 auto GLE is a car that not to many like to mod I've noticed. It will be kind of original?
