Rearview Mirror Broke...how common is this?

The other day I was driving with my sound system pretty loud, and I began to hear a vibrating/clicking noise coming from my right. I initially thought it was my JL tweeters distorting, but didn't think much of it. Then all of a sudden, the mirror snaps off and is dangling from the auto-dimming cables!

I think I've read of similar situations happening to 5th gen owners here, but I think it had to do with the mirror taking out a chunk of glass with it. With mine, the shaft that goes into the ball & socket broke. I rarely move the mirror as I'm the only driver of my 2k2, so it must have been due to the vibration from bass. I took it to the dealer (who is awesome with warranting stuff) but he said it could not be covered under my nissan extended warranty. He said it would cost me $109CAD+ for a new mirror and assembly.

I have seen this once on this forum, maybe 2 years ago.... It is not common, but a lot of base will break the mirror.

I'd superglue it for a temporary fix.

But its so heavy that it'll just fall off again, especially since im on coilovers and cannot drive without some good music...lol

I might try and drill holes on each side of the rod, and then use a screw that's sharp on both sides and secure it that way. Then slide a cylinder shape sleeve over the cracked area to keep it from bending.

Just wrap it in some duct tape

That happened to me, where the rear view fell and took a peice of glass with it. Nissan did not cover it, and i had to pay for it myself. I was not happy.

it really does not happen often... as far as i know, it is just you and I that have had the issue.

Not a common occurrance. Go to your local auto parts store and purchase the adhesive kit to replace the rear view mirror. This will last a lot longer than the super glue and duct tape as advised above.

I don't think that adhesive will fix a BROKEN mirror. The rod broke in the center.
