Buying a starter?
Buying a starter?
OK so Ive determined I need to replace my starter. Any place specifically I should get it from?
At http://shop.nissanpartstore.com/?make=NI&year=2000 I found 2, one by Bosch and another by Denso. I have no clue what the difference is, any ideas?
Another one I found: http://www.carpartswholesale.com/sto...N&model=MAXIMA
That says 11-tooth drive, is there another option I should watch out for?
Is going to the dealer a better idea then getting it online? Should I consider DaveB?
Lastly, I want to do this myself but is it something I should attempt? I have only low to moderate mechanical experience. (Previous repairs include, front/reat brake change, throttle body cleaning, oil change, transmission oil change) From reading the "Do it youself" page it seems like you have to remove the intake assembly then its just 2 screws and 2 wires and its off. Is it really that simple?
Thanks, I really appreciate the advice.

I never heard of Denso, but I know Bosch's are good. You can get away with any re-manufactured starters and still be good. You don't have to waste your money on genuine Nissan starters. I think they are over-priced and aren't any better than the aftermarket ones. Yeah, save your money and istall it yourself. It's really simple. Take out the air intake, you'll have more room to work with. Once the intake is out, you have access to the starter. There are two large bolts holding the starter on the car (I think the bolts are 17mm or 18mm). They are really torqued on there so be patient trying to break them loose. I used a heavy duty torque wrench to loosen the bolts. Some people use a breaker bar to free them loose. This is fine, too. Remove the electrical connections and remove the starter. Re-install new starter using the reverse procedure and your done!
yes, its that simple. call a local starter shop and see what they want for a reman unit. i like reman units because each unit gets individual attention, and is tested to spec.
in a mass production factory, things slip by sometimes.
