wierd screetch/squeal
i have a wierd scraping/screeching/squealing sound coming from the passenger side front wheel. it happens when i apply the brake, back up slowly, hit a pothole, or turn slightly. the sound comes in and out. sometimes its there sometimes nothing. it just started happening today? i check my rotor and it smooth so i think the brakes should still be ok, unless they make those crazy noises when they need to be changed? does anybody have any ideas?
thank you

its definately the brakes giving me a signal to change them, should i be concerned about anything else because today the screeching got worse and it even makes noise when im driving and the brakes are not applied
If it makes sound when you are just driving it could be the bearing too. Drive slow and try to see if the noise is constant or if it fades with the revolution of the wheel. I had the same problem over the last couple of weeks. First had new pads and rotors re-surfaced. Next day same noise so my guy took the rotors off and the RT front was warped, replaced rotors this time. Still had noise. It turned out to be a bad bearing. Due to the Metal on Metal noise I decided that the Hub was most likely being damaged so I decided to replace the Hub and Bearing too.
Total cost in the end for new PADS, ROTORS, BEARING, HUB, & LABOR was $650 out of pocket.
The simple bearing test is to jack up the front and put your hands at 10 & 2 on the tire and see if you can rock it back and forth. If you have ANY play at all, even a little clicking, your bearing is shot. If you have a warrantee, go to Nissan, if not, call Dave B for the part and shop around for someone who can do the work right and for a fair price. Good luck.
