According to the owner's manual, the HomeLink garage door transmitter is supposed remain powered for only 30 min or so after you remove your key and leave the car. I thought that was a great security feature, since I park my Max outside the garage most of the time. (Didn't want to give a thief an easy way to open my garage door). However, I noticed that the Homelink system is always powered. For those with Homelink, does it always work, even without the key in the ignition?

homelink

It looks that way. I went into my car that was sitting over night in the garage and the home link worked BEFORE putting the key in the ignition. So, I guess it never shuts off, or maybe it becomes active when you open the door.

I wish you could disable a feature like that

Thats the same way w/ our Accord, the homelink works without the car being on. I don't think that is a very good design by Japanese Companies.

B/c our in our Mercedes, the homelink doesn't work once the car is off.

when you open the drivers door it becomes powered. i left my window open in my max when i went into the house one night and the next day i reached in the window to open the door and it wouldn't work. i thought maybe the key had to be in it, but as soon as i opened the car door and tried it again it worked. i find it a little unsettling too, but it's not too big a deal.

Kinda like leaving your car outside with a garage door opener in it. Nobody EVER does that! LOL
