Having Aamco replace gear oil... Thoughts?

I spoke with a guy from the Aamco transmission joint down the road. I told him I wanted him to put in the Redline MT90 fluid I purchased for my transmission. He seemed hesistant and said he would not be responsible for any fluid they put in the car which they did not reccomend.

I would be doing this myself, but I dont have the time to drop my pan... nor the room.

It sounds like the guy is being honest, does anyone see any reason to steer clear of this place? He said he wanted to "check out my transmission" before putting anything in there... Hmm.

Their just trying to get more money from you. Its just a drain and fill, no pan to drop on a manual. Just make sure they put the plugs back in afterwards.

Do it yourself! Go to www.greghome.com and check out the manual gear fluid change. It's pretty good. You'll notice some performance differences afterwards!

Take the car to a Jiffy Lube or something and get them to do it and let them dispose of the old gear oil. It will cost peanuts.

Well I got it done at Aamco at a reasonable price. My shifts are smoother now, however the shifting action is still notchy. Anyone know what needs to be done to help rectify this?

Some notchyness is good. Your synchro's use friction to slow down or speed up the pilot shaft to match the speed of the layshaft so the gears won't grind. The notchyness you feel are your synchro's working. Don't be so anxious to get rid of it...

Thankyou for the tip. I thought it seemed "overly" notchy however. Maybe my imagination.
