Headlight Bulbs?

I was talking to a guy at checker autoparts and he said that for my 2001 maxima I could put H4's in there instead of 9003 is that possible?

He said the only difference is that the H4's have higher wattage so they are brighter.

Is that true?

Anyone did this?

Having a higher wattage means maybe more amperage. You may blow a fuse or the harness itself. Hey, do you know of anyone else in town that is on this forum. We should all meet up and chill. You know what I'm sayin'?

H4's are the stock headlight bulbs for the regular halogens in the 5th gener's. That's what I used before I converted to the HID's. Yeah, H4's are rated 60/55W--55W ran at low beam and 60W at high beam. Basically, 9003 are the same bulb, but H4's are higher wattage. And, no, you won't fry your stock harness if you run the H4's. Only upgrade your harness if you happen to run any higher wattages like PIAA's which are rated to run like 80W or more.

eBay - "Nokya harness"....but running a higher watt bulb is a bad idea. Even with the harness you are putting more stress on the stock electrical system.

You don't need a harness for pretty much any bulb I've ever seen. I ran PIAA Xtreme White for 2 years or so and people see that the front says 120Watts or whatever but that is only the output, the actual wattage drawn (which is all that matters) is 55/60 on PIAA and there is no need for a harness (stock is 55 and anything under 65 or so would be fine with the stock harness). I'm running Nokya Arctic Whites now and those have the same wattage where the output is much higher than the drawn wattage. Luminics, Silverstar and some other brands all work like this.

But be careful as some bulbs such as Nokya comes in Stage II which DRAWS 100W, those CAN and have been known to burn out harnesses.

Sorry that's not correct. Stage II do not draw 100W nor do any bulbs i've ever seen people use.

PIAA link -----> http://www.automotivelightingusa.com...roducts_id=429

Nokya link ------> http://www.automotivelightingusa.com...roducts_id=362

That is what i'm running and there aren't any problems. They burn the exact same wattage as PIAAs that I ran for 2 years in both drawn wattage and output wattage. Courtesy Nissan said it would be fine when I told them the wattage (bc i was curious) and the place I bought them from said they are so sure nothing will happen that they said they'd replace the factory harnesses and anything else damaged if anything ever happened under the 2 yr warantee I got on them where i can replace them for free no questions asked. I've known kids who ran these bulbs for years and nothing ever happened nor have I ever heard a story of melted harnesses due to these bulbs anywhere on the .org for as long as I've been a member. Just get the PIAAs if thats what you want...don't worry about it...just look at the wattage first to double check.

No offense Kruppa, but I've run through my own sets of bulbs and Nokyas DO come in Stage II which DO draw 100W. Example:

Like I said...

Look at my link for the Nokya Stage II bulbs...your link is the same exact bulbs (outdated box) with the same information on the outside of the box which say 100/120 which is OUTPUT but of course Ebay gives bad information and doesn't specify how much is drawn like the link I provided you does...Take a look.

Dude, seriously...Nokya does make 100W bulbs. The standard way of displaying wattage for a bulb package is X DRAW/X Output i.e. 55w/100w, or in Nokya Stage II's case 100W/120W. And if you really think Nokyas don't make 100W bulbs, go to acurazine.com and click on the first gen CL forum, ask them if their Nokyas are 55w or 100w.

It's okay to be wrong. The boxes advertise differently....Look at that link I sent once again...PIAA advertises wattage drawn on the outside and Nokya advertises wattage output on the outside...I know there may be a standard way, but Nokya doesnt put it correctly on the outside of the box and they also put their description lo/hi instead of hi/lo like it should be so that's a poor indicator...didn't your parents ever teach you that it's not what's on the outside that matters?
Trust me I did my research and the Stage II Nokya bulbs are stock wattage and are perfectly fine to use...You may be able to find some crazy HID bulbs that put out way more wattage, but no bulbs like the PIAAs and Nokyas that I have experience with produce wattage that will potentially hurt the wiring harness

Well since I can't convince anyone, I'll just say there are some eBay auctions where they state that the Stage II's draw in 80W. I firmly stood by and said Nokya made 100W because I've read personal accounts of them burning out harnesses and how 1st gen Acura CL owners swear by them for the color. So if I am wrong, thanks for the correction.
