able to repair muffler rear pipe?
my mechanic tells me I have a hole in the rear pipe, and that I have to change the whole end...
for now, the sound is not too loud, but if it gets worst, I would like to know if I can repair it or if I do have to change the entire muffler section.
As you can see, its near the joint between the rear and mid pipes.

Btw, I have a 2000 Fed specs Manny Max.
Thanks for your input.

yeah sure you could weld it or what not. But my advise man since it looks that you still have the stock rear section on is to just buy a whole new catback from frankencar or cattman. or you can jsut buy a new rear section from either of them too. They have very very nice tones to them both. Not loud and ricey like the greddy.

my pipe broke right at the fitting, right after my header install. I brought it to Midas, and had them cut off the fitting and weld a sleeve over it. At some point im getting the franken cb but untill then, it was $50 well spent.

Tons of praise and gratitude to anyone who can help me!!!!!!!!!!a similar thing just happened to me and theyre telling me to cop a whole new muffler for $289!!!!!!! goodgod
Mine broke right at the part where it flanges out, and apparently that pipe is all one part of the muffler, so i cant just replace that one small section of pipe. Now im not talking a hole in the pipe, it broke free completely, so my exhaust now exits just behind the passenger side rear wheel.
Is there anything i can do besides get the whole new muffler section? a young man is broke these days...i was thinking more along the lines of $200 MAX for the whole repair, NOT $289 for a muffler, and another $100 labor.

dude i went to midas also and they didnt give me the cheap alternative you got from them.
im trying to follow what you said but "cut off the fitting" i dont know what you mean. ignorance is not bliss.
for clarity....look at the pic MrPoisse posted, view#1.
My pipe broke right where those bolts are, clean and flush from the piece that is bolted.( i think this is what happened to you too, correct) So the two diamond shaped pieces are still bolted together, but the round pipe isnt connected to it anymore. So what did you have them do?

I believe it was $53 and it took about 35 minutes.

Can anyone help? I need a muffler for a 2000 infiniti I30. I put an aftermarket one on which was a cut and weld job and now thats breaking and no one will put the OEM one back on. Not to mention it was way to loud for my car.

haha i have the same problem as you guys are having, isnt it weird???
and Midas would do a "patch" for $100. What they would do is hack a piece of my perfectly good B-pipe and weld a sleeve over it. Same issue, I do not want to spend that much on a muffler and want to stay stock.
Is there an aftermarket rear section pipe available for sale anywhere? The car is very loud, sick of it....

I think most of us have had this problem. My stock muffler went bye-bye a few months ago (rusted through in the same spot as yours) so now I have the frankencar....nice looking, quiet, and STAINLESS STEEL so I don't have to deal with this BS again.

Also, this mechanic up at midas said he constantly sees this same exact problem wit maximas.

the aftermarket muffler does not come with rear section pipe, correct? besides, any aftermarket exhaust is louder than stock, you're maybe gaining a bit low end but loosing higher end, and 2-3 mpg worse.
