Sign of MAF going bad ?

How would you dectect if your MAF is going bad ? My car would pull from 1 to 4 rpm but afterwards it seems like its out of breath. The car doesn't wanna go any more but the rpm is climbing real slowly. I just got the car about 2 months ago. Yesterday i put it in nuetral and rev a little then it shut off. Is this a sign of somethings?? I honestly dont think my AE is this slow, something must be wrong . EIther the Maf or variable is the only thing i could think of ...Somebody exerperiencin the same situation??
