HID Glare remarks...
HID Glare remarks...
I just had a post on my 2000 Maxima with the stock reflector housing and the 6000k Helios H4 Hi/Lo HID kit and i had so many comments about glare but decided if i lower the beam it should be okay, but then I saw this and got all excited...

"This adapter allows the D2S or the D2R HID bulb to be used on a standard H4 headlamp housing, such as motorcycle or aftermarket automotive style housing. Has correct beam alignment shield to project light from the HID lamp to the road, eliminating upward glare. Perfect low beam disbursement is achieved with a clean cut-off point"
PERFECT!
but it gets better...I then look at the custommaxima website because I know they sell the Helios kit and what do you know...

Look at the left side in the middle picture (H4 glare resistant shield)
There is no point to get the above shield from casper because if you look at the picture, there is already that same metal device along the length of the H4 bulb that prevents the glare
Do you put that metal rod on the top of the bulb to prevent it from going into ppls eyes i'd assume so right?

Kruppa, how bad is the glare without the shield. I was planning on getting PnP HID for my 2k1 max but the glare situation is holding me back. Do you have any pictures of the cutoff against a garage door or anything. I heard the 5th gens are not as bad as the 4th because the filament of the H4 bulb is vertical like the HID's. Thus the reflector doesn't scatter the light as much as the 4th gen. Debating if I should get the projectors
Hah i'd never get projectors or any retrofit...ugly as sin in my opinion i've seen so many and i don't like any of them...I don't have the kit yet...coming in mail tomorrow...hopefully install it shortly after...i'll take pics on a wall if it ever stops raining

glare on the 5th gen isnt as bad as the 4th, but the light output still isnt great. I put some on momentarily and had a little less output than the halogens, i then decided i had to do a retrofit or get 2k2 lights. (went with 2k2), i wanted to do a retrofit because the output is even better with a projector hid than reflector, but the work kinda kept me away from attempting it.
so it is possible to get the 2k2 headlights and an HID kit(for a more intense bulb) for the 2000 model maxima? i keep reading warnings about how it will melt the fixtures and all this other bs, but getting the 2k2 headlights solves this problem correct?
you wont need a kit if you have the 2k2 headlights (they already have ballasts with ignitors built in), if you want a more intense bulb, you can just buy some aftermarket ones. The supply of d2r bulbs, (the one 2k2 uses) is a little scarcer than d2s, but im sure you can find the right intensity your looking for, although i wouldnt recommend anything over 7k. you wont melt anything as hid's run on a lower wattage. it just requires some splicing into your stock wiring

The 2k2 uses D2S bulbs, not D2R bulbs.

If you have a 2002 Maxima with HIDs you buy the D2s bulbs as replacement bulbs...not D2r

02-03 maxima uses D2R which is for reflector housings...D2S are for projectors housings like the ones on the 04+ maxima's

also there is a light grey coating on d2r bulbs to not concentrate the light like d2s bulbs in projectors

cool deal... cuz I want to do the same thing. I'm probably gonna try to get a 6000K HID kits and like you, I don't want to draw attention from cops. I'm probably gonna just lower my headlights. BTW do you know where the **** is to adjust the headlights?

Just to clear things up if anybody is confused about this thread...the 2K2-2K3 headlamps use D2R bulbs, not D2S. The D2R bulbs are used for reflector headlights and the D2S are used for projector lamps. The bases of both bulbs are totally different, solely on their recommended purpose. A shield is used for the D2S to reduce glare, whereas the D2S does not, because it sits behind the projector lens. Here, read this interesting article...
