with all the little chips in my paint, i was getting annoyed, especially considering i wasn't the only one having this problem. but then some idiot tagged my rear corner panel in a parking lot scraping off about three inches of paint around my wheel well. so now it's time to do something. i figure it's gonna take forever to get the dealer to do anything, so i'll just buy the $3 touch up paint for now and cover up the little things so they're not so bad.
any tips? or does it just go on like nail polish?

It all depends.

If you're trying to touch up tiny imperfections, the touch-up paints works fairly well. I usually just put like 3 really small layers of it on the area that I want to touch up. You can't really notice anything unless you're totally up against the car looking at it. If you're going to try to touch up scratches, like noticeable ones, I wouldn't recommend using the touch up paint, cause it will look kinda funny.

One of the products that autosupermart carries is a kit that helps repair nicks scratches and chips to factory appearance, try http://www.autosupermart.com/shopcar...riesindex.html

I find...

the touchup paint matches my sterling mist very well. but on our pearl white PF, it looks like hell (its a two step touch up process - white then clear pearl).

Re: It all depends.

yeah i was gonna put it on the smaller chips just so that the dark metal doesn't stand out so badly against my white car.
as for the scratch, i don't know what i'm going to do. i'll have to take it to an autobody place sooner or later.

Don't do it

If you have an Icelandic Pearl one, don't do it. I ordered the needed supplies from Nissan and only got one little tube of paint, Icelandic Pearl. They said it was ALL I needed. I touched up one little spot on the hood and it drives me crazy because its so damn obvious to me. Others don't notice it but I do and it just kills me. Other colors might be better but the Ice Pearl is NOT one I would touch up. Doesn't match. Many have said it's a two step process but Nissan doesn't say that so I'm not sure what to do anymore. Just racking up chips for now.

you dont have tube #2

I had to bug the hell out of the parts dept to get the right stuff... I mean, 2-3 visits and 3 phone calls. Finally, they looked harder and saw that there is a second tube for touching up pearl.

I know, I know... the white is like White-Out® and looks like total crap. However, the second tube is a clear pearl and it calms down that stark white and gives it the needed pearl. Still, I dont think it would look great on a big spot.. I havent had any large spots yet. but by all means, get that clear pearl tube if you plan on touching up a white car.

Try this and it will look like new, if done properly:

I've used the black touch up for my hood.. and it doesn't quite match.. but does a nice job of sealing the paint against rust. One piece of advice.. apply the touch up to chips using a match stick.. not a brush... it keeps it more precise.

Mine's a Grey Luster, and the touch up paint matches up pretty well. (I've only had to use it on my *rear* bumper so far...) You have to be looking for the spots to see 'em.

It goes on like nail polish, but you really have to make sure you get as much paint as possible out of the brush. (I like the matchstick idea. I'll give it a try.)

Oh yeah, shake, shake, shake.

The first thing I bought after my new 2K SE was the touch up paint. I find the best way to apply it to small chips is with a tooth pick. The brush is only good for chips the size of your little finger nail. Do two or three light coats, then let dry for 12 hours and reaply wax to seal the area repaired.
Remember to hit the chip with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol
first to clean the area to be repaired. With the quality of paint on these cars, you to will become an expert on touch-ups ).
