Taking the Maxima for granted?

You know that saying that goes " you don't know what you got till it's gone." Well, I'm glad I realized before it was gone. I'm referring to my 2002 Max. This car was supposed to be a temporary replacement for my SRT-4 I lost last year, but I'll tell you it sure has grown on me. I've been slaving so hard the past year to get my new toy on the road( see pics below ) and sell the Max, but am now starting to think twice about getting rid of what has become such a great car.

It funny how now when I'm thinking of selling the Max I notice how smooth it is, how snappy the tranny shifts, how sweet the power band feels, how great she looks. Most people including myself are always trying to get what they want, when in fact they should be enjoying what they have. I love my Lex, but the bottom line is enjoy your Maxima's cause there great cars....

Yea, I know - I grew out of the SRT-4 10 years before I bought it, but I still had to go and buy it........

Back to the Max........The funny thing is that I just had 2 o2 sensors swaped and the ECU remaped under warranty and the car seems quicker. I know it's not running as lean as it used to cause my temp guage is always on 1/4 of the way up. It used to sit a hair under the 1/2. Anyhow that car feels great now, and I'm planning on keeping for a while. Well at least till my 84month 100k warranty is up, and that will be at 143,296 miles.... Since I bought the car as a pre-owned cirtirified the 100k warranty started to count at 43k.....

What kind of drop(springs/struts and how much lower u dropped it) you have on your 02?

I need to measure my schools speed bumps (because teens love driving at excess speeds in school zones so we have gargantuan speed stops not even bumps lol)...maybe this weekend.

I hate that sh*t. My entire car just flops over the enormous bumps in my school parking lot.

I had that feeling when i first sold my max, but my Lex made me forget about it REAL quick. Although, the biggest thing i miss about my max is the 6-speed.
That SC is gorgeous!!

Hey, good to see you again..... I'll be keeping the Max for the daily grind and driving the Lex on the weekend. Manual trans. is ruff in rush hour trafic, not to mention the Lex is running a very aggressive 4 puck clutch....

Can't tell from the pics, is that an SC300 or SC400?

*Edit: I see from the post above mine you have the JP SC300.

My Dad had an SC400, very sweet car but had terrible paint on the bumper, it peeled off in large flakes.

I know how you feel about the Max. I always seem to look to trade up after 3 to 4 years but wind up missing the car I got rid of because the new one had something the old one did not. With the Max, I can't seem to find a GREAT car to replace it with...plus it just seems to get better with age.

1993 SC300 5speed......Original paint, no issues...maybe your old man had the bumper repainted at some time, I've never seen a Lex with paint issues..

Nope, he bought it new and never drove it (1993 with 40k miles in 2002). Oddly, Lexus of Columbia burned the paint on the passenger side front fender trying to buff out some bird poop. They sent it to be repainted at a local body shop. That fender looked better than the whole car after 10 years. Dad has owned 2 other Lexus' without any paint problems.

I dunno...honestly, I'm so tired of my car. I want something new. But everyone, everyday, compliments me on it. On the rims. On the leather. On the space. The PSP in the car. The performance. Baaah. And I'm like "yeah..." and yet, I still plan on getting a 350Z, or an A4 2.0T or a G35x next Spring. Gah!

Yep, I've seen that. I was in the market for a G35 a while back and looked into a few kits including the supercharger...

The VQ should run great with that setup.....

Actually I have to sell the Max after all My wife had convinced me thru heavy nagging that we could sell the Max now that it's paid and use the money for other things. I also have a Dodge Ram 1500 that I can drive on the daily...... I don't even know what I could ask for an 02 Auto Maxima. Forget Kelly Blue book - there all selling for less out there, especially on the For sale forum here.

Any ideas of what I should be asking as is with the D2's and 19" SSR's???

My maxima is going tobe the end of me. I bought my 01 maxima for a daily driver because I already have a project car. At this point I can't stop spending money on the max. It's making me a very poor man.
