possible bad motor mounts?

Sorry if you're reading a similar thread for the billionth time but...

I've searched (and found a few useful threads) as well as looked over the FAQ and didn't find anything there.

This is on my wife's car. She's had the car a little over a year now and it has close to 85k miles on it. She's been rear-ended three times (one time that FELT really bad but showed very little cosmetic damage) Anyway, prior to the last two rear-ends (two were in one week!) we had gone to a Sears and gotten a free re-balance under their warranty. Not 10 minutes after leaving Sears she was rear-ended so neither of us can tell 100% if the vibration that she was experiencing beforehand actually went away. Afterward, there was a vibration that I figured might've been due to the jerkoff that rear-ended us knocking some wheel weights off. We returned the car to Sears and they graciously rebalanced the wheels. The vibration is there. I've noticed also that when she is on the brakes lightly (like coming up to a red light and going maybe 10MPH) and then gets back on the gas, there's a thud. I also remember hearing a while ago that a buzz on acceleration might be motor mounts? She absolutely has this and has had it for a while.

The buzz and the thud when on/off the gas at low speeds makes sense for a bad motor mount but what about the vibration? I'm thinking that maybe at certain RPMs the engine vibration is felt in the cabin? Make sense to anyone else? Comments, questions, anything?!

I have a "thud" similar to what you described, under the same conditions, but it's barely noticeable. I have to have my left foot flat on the floorboard to feel it - can't hear it. Is that the same kind of thud you're experiencing? I've been wondering what's causing mine, but I haven't had time to get it taken care of yet. My car's never been involved in any accidents though. I've wondered if it was a broken motor mount as well, but I really don't know.

With my wife's car, it is noticeable to me as a passenger. The car has been to Nissan for a tuneup (I think 60k and that was a few months ago with 70-75k on the odometer - we were busy with a wedding) The body shop that we've taken it to said that the 5th gen are notorious for dry rotting. While I don't think the accidents were the cause of a bad motor mount (although I'd love to get insurance to cover that!) I do think it significantly helped along the 'aging' process of these mounts and it may have contributed to an early demise.

Nice car by the way

my same thud came from 3 of my lugs being completely loose on my front driver's side wheel. thank god my wheel didn't fly off. tighten the lugs up, and the thud went away.

i have an issue that my steering wheel vibrates as i rev the car up. even when in neutral. not sure what that is, i'm thinking motor mount also. the vibration is slight, but definately there. let me know what you find out.

Thanks for the compliment . I have about 76k on the odo now, so I guess once life slows down a bit I should get it looked at. I know I'll have to take them on a ride along though, as I know they'll never figure it out themselves unless I'm there to point it out.

Lugs have been checked and rechecked (and even checked by my wife on her own without me telling her today!!!) It's not them
