Speaking of which, the stealership tried to charge me 48 bucks for one of those!

I refuse to pay that much for a sheet of cotton... Anyone know where we can get a cheaper equivalent?

You can try cleaning and washing the one you have. Otherwise you are going to pay that price for the filter. The one you buy at the dealership is not that same one that is in your car, it is made a hell of a lot better and can be cleaned without it falling apart.

You can clean the 5.5gen filter. None of the others.

I wish Bosch made one for the Maxima. They have some really high quality in-cabin filters.

i wahsed mine and it became shapeless. i just took 3m home furnace filter, and cut it to shape of the oem one. i put it in, and it worked great. the one i got was filtrete hypo-allergenic. it has a metal mesh on the outside to keep the filter shape. it was around $15, and i can use it for about 4-5 more filters for my car. it is not as thick as the oem filter, but for 15 bux, i can change it twice a year, and still come out way ahead.

To change the filter, you have to remove the glovebox, right? Is it hard to get it lined up again when you put it back? (I'm not that handy and don't want to mess things up or end up with rattles.)

When I first did it, it was a b!tch to do, but after that, pretty easy. Just make sure you don't disconnect that airbag connection!

I just replaced mint this weekend.... I disconnected that big yellow connector to get the glove box out. I didn't get any lights... yet. The directions for the glove box removal are included with the new OEM filter. For 48 bucks it better have some directions; talk about feeling like your getting

is this idea of changing the in cabin micro-filter a necessity, how do you know you need a new one? whats the point, when people say"i replaced the filter and now it works great" like what difference does it make.

I always clean mine when I get a dusty smell when the vent first kicks on, i normally just blow it out with compressed air. it's crazy how much stuff builds up in a short time when you live in the sticks of western Pa.
