I am not sure if I remember correctly, but I think that 5.5gens with headers had problems with the stock main catt melting down on them...

My stock catt was fine on my 2000, I just wanted to change it and I was having sealing problems.
This increase in noise........would it be a positive or negative change? Meaning does it sound sheity or really good?

6spd_Hayes: Your 02 does not have EGR. Did the headers come with a plug for that port? Or does that short piece of tube have a threaded fitting in the end and that is the plug?

Y-pipe /= headers

Sounds like you have just a y-pipe... both Gen I and II come with the manifolds plus a piece that replaces the y-pipe.

For me... negative, I want to keep it as quite as possible from here on out. The Headers and cattback really make the car louder, I do not wish to keep on upping the sound.

It sounds great, the interior noise can just get annoying after a while, that is why I am putting Fatmat down...

and as I said before I think that putting on a staight pipe will make the exhaust pop, and that I really HATE.

As for noise, keep stock cat-back, taht's what I have and there's no increase in noise, only power

Fluck the looks, it's all about teh power. Besides leaning over the radiator to see them, you wont see much of them once they're installed. . . .only feel them

I am waiting to hear something good on these new stateside headers before I drop the bomb. The old ones were supposed to legitimately add 20 hp and these are billed as better performing. See what you you get, I hope you get alot.

How much do these new Cattman headers cost?

And are they all 304 SS construction? Someone should do the magnet test where you run one on the metal and if it doesn't stick it's 304 SS or some other non-ferrous metal .

So even if they add 'only' the same amount ... you still wont drop the bomb?

Cattman only sells the Gen2 as of now...right? So even if it does produce the same hp #s, your choices are, brand new Gen2s or used Gen1s...or no headers at all and just get a y-pipe

Cattman claims this new design is suppose to give 9whp more mid-range over the previous gen1 design....not to shabby for it being $100 more than the previous design

So .. then 9whp upper, and ~ 15-18 tq down low, since it is 'thru the power band' .. this is with vague respect to thhe HP/tq relation.

Yes, that set-up includes both header banks and the Y-pipe (and install hardware).

I wondered who would be the first to notice that. You are correct, 2k2's do not have EGR. Simple fix, I used a cut off wheel and cut it off. The company I work for has a car nut of a machinist who is going to weld a patch up for me.

This is a new vendor for Cattman. As soon as the left off hardware was noticed, they were overnight FedEx'd to the customers.

I do not know how much the next run of the Gen II headers are going to be. The people getting them now have been on a long waiting list.

They are definetly 304 stainless steel.

i spoke with brain catts last week, and he said the new headers are only slightly different design. where the 3 exhaust ports join, is where the change came in. they made this section more free-flowing. he said somethng like 4-5 hp gain in the middle rp range. i dont think it's a significant increase overall, but he mentioned that the engine can breathe better because of this. make sense. the overall design is mostly the same as gen1 headers.

Its 10 under the curve in total, but 5 whp from 3000-6500 rpm, unless I'm misunderstanding what he wrote.

EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation - takes a portion of your exhaust gases and routes them back into your intake. This lowers NOx (Oxides of Nitrogen) emissions by lowering combustion temperatures.

95 thru 01 use an external EGR valve and tube to connect the exhaust and intake systems to carry out this function.

I believe 02 and 03 use valve timing to carry out the EGR function.

350 for the header install, another 50 for the wire extenders for the 02 sensors.
Pretty good deal.

Just out of curiousity. I got a little smoke under the hood after I had the install done, and for about 5 minutes afterwards. Normal? There was a little radiator fluid splashed inside... Could that have caused it?

Im not really sure how much I like the cattman muffler. Seems a little too Rice Rocket for me... I felt like everyone was looking at me. Asides from that, Jeff did a FANTASTIC job. I would reccomend maximum tuning for any tuning job for your max! Thanks Jeff!

Rice Rocket? Please man. You must not know the scene.
I have heard from others that the Cattman catback, in my case, sounds awesome at load. Deep and throaty. What is wrong with that?

You obviously have never heard a rice rocket...

Not that I'm getting defensive or anything...
