ATF change question not asked before

its my 1st full atf change incl dropping pan on my 02 max.
i read the thread giving info--the one the guy talks about have a few beers and enjoy your more responsive tranny and his wife being pissed at him.

anyway if i switch to mobil 1 synthetic, when i remove the return hose and drain then fill a few quarts at a time wont it be bad cause im actually mixing some of the fluid still in the system with the new synthetic or does it not matter??? i thought your not supposed to mix synthetic and dino.

also wheres the best place to buy mobil 1 syn atf online.

well that guy you are talking about is ME. If you follow the writeup it will work. The oil mix won't be a problem cause you are actually pushing the old one out and putting the new one in. So buy more Quarts like 10 instead of 8 and just flush it until you don't have any quarts available. If you don't trust my write up well take it to Nissan or Jiffy lube so they can do a power flush and Fu$# up your tranny.

You can buy it at Walmart ...or any autoparts

Good luck

mixing it is not an issue, at least not with mobil 1. it is fully compatible. just take your time removing the bolts in the pan and be sure to torque them back correctly. be sure to clean if not replace the metal screen while you have pan down. i buy my mobil 1 atf from pep boys.

I'd change mine at least within the recommended interval at every 30k if not sooner. When I removed the pan on my 03 at 32k it had quite a bit of metal shavings and gunk/sludge in the pan. The magnets were full(probably 2-3x their normal size) and the sludge stuck to the bottom of the pan had quite a bit of shavings in it. On the bright side the screen had only a few shavings stuck in it. The fluid was quite dark, not quite black, but a lot darker than new. BTW I got my Max at 18k(didn't know prior history).
I switched to M1 syn with currently 40k and probably will do another flush at 55k or so. I'll have to wait till then to see if the syn improves anything(as far as wear). I really didn't notice a difference in shifts right off, but I'm sure now that winter is fast coming to CO I'll find out soon.
Also here is a link to the same/similar discussion in the "Fluids and Lubricants" section:

Ive never f'd up a tranny with a flush machine, and ive done SEVERAL. i dont think my any dealer ive ever worked at has ever bought a tranny due to a failure from a flush.

and the fluid will mix no matter what you do, short of an overhaul. the idea is to get as much of the old out as you can. if youre trying to add while the engine is running and pumping out the old, make sure the trans doesnt go dry.

a standard trans flush uses about 16 quarts.
