Looking To buy a 5th gen

I did the research but I didn't see anything in reference to my question. I'm looking to buy a 5th gen max...my 4th gen was stolen on Friday. For some reason the 4th gen seems to be a hot item...the only thing I heard about the 5th gen is stolen headlights. Is that problem solved? Has anyone heard of the 5th getting stolen? I figured with the chip (immobilizer) it should be a little harder. If you guys can give me some feedback, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Do 3rd gens get stolen? Yes.
Do 4th gens get stolen? Yes.
Do 5th gens get stolen? Yes.
Do 6th gens get stolen? Yes.

Sorry about your misfortune with your 4th gen, but honestly I don't really think about theft rate when I'm looking at a particular car. I've read A LOT less stolen HID threads recently, so HIDs may not be such a hot item as much as they were before. (not asking for new threads either)

Is it true that newer cars that come with immobilizers are pretty damn difficult to steal? In other words, only highly trained thieves have the ability to steal immobilzed cars....or can yer average thief have the ability to steal one?

In the NYC Metro area, Maxima theft has been big since the 2G. As far as HID theft problems on the 5.5G, it does still occur. So that's something you'll HAVE TO take into consideration if you get the 5.5G.

As far as thieves go, the typical street thief probably wouldnt get past the immobilizer. However, a thief with a flatbed or tow truck can certainly ****** a Maxima w/immobilizer now and then dissect it at a chop shop later.

If a thief wants your car, there's really nothing you can do about.

You got a point there!

But a 5.5 gen is a pretty nice upgrade from your 97. Black on black 6speed

I got a kid with a nice white with grey leather that looks real good...seriuosly hinking about it. The black on black with 6speed is what I was looking for last year, but now I get frustrated with the stick when I'm going around in the city.

I actually thought they slowed down on the head lights because of the precautions Nissan designed.

It's still a problem but not as big as before. It has slowed down some cause people are more alert and try to keep an eye on there car better.......

So what you saying is all generations get stolen?

And no, they did NOT solve the HID theft problem. Nor will they ever solve the problem completely. Perhaps when HID is standard in more cars, they won't be the hot item, but for now they are regardless of whether you drive a Maxima, Porsche, Audi, Benz, BMW, Lexus, etc.
