I’m having this strange clutch/throttle action happening when I first drive my 2K Maxima. It can me warm or cold, it doesn’t seem to matter. When I let the clutch pedal come up, it doesn’t seem to come all the way to the top. It feels like it is getting hung up on my shoe, but I’m sure it isn’t. The clutch pedal will pop up towards my foot and at the same instant the throttle pedal will pull away from my other foot. The strange movement of both pedals doesn’t seem to affect the drivability, but it is annoying. Has anyone else experienced this in their Maxima?

Clutch Pedal Pop (SOLVED)

I took the Maxima to the dealer yesterday to have the clutch pedal popup checked into. On the way their I discovered why the pedal was popping up at the end of its travel. When the clutch pedal is pushed all the way to the floor, it was just barely clearing the top edge of the floor mat. On its way back up from the floor it would bring the mat with it and release the mat just as the pedal reached the top of its travel. The releasing of the mat would cause the pedal to pop up. The car has been doing this since new. I showed the service advisor what was happening and he asked if I minded if he put a cut in the mat. I said no to having a cut in the mat. When I came back to pick up the car, he had installed brand new mats in my car. Apparently the mats were made incorrectly or the 5-speeds take different mats than the automatic cars. The top edge of the new mat is stepped down about 2 inches below the clutch pedal. The old mat was straight across the top edge. The problem was solved and I got brand new mats in exchange for my mats with 20K miles of wear and tear on them. It was covered under the warranty.

I also had the ECU reprogrammed to eliminate the jerky throttle. It is like driving a completely different car. It is now very smooth when using light throttle in traffic.
