I have been following the Maxima since 1995 when it was reported to do 0-60 in 6.7 secs (5 spd). Finally with the 20th Ann (227 hp) I had the opportunity and took it (I decided to buy it BRAND NEW -5spd-). From the beginning I felt that it was lacking power (I just rationalized that the car has smooth suspension; motor has to break in). From time to time I would time myself and it was over 9 secs. (I've been driving stick shift for 17 yrs and do shift properly). I felt that I was not getting enough power at low rpm. I took the car to a Nissan dealer and a Maxima specialist noticed the lack of power as well. I left it for inspection and was charged $90.00 for them to reset the computer, remove my added floor matts (which they said was the cause of the problem) and I believe they did something else to the throttle (not sure). Any ways, I clock myself at just over 8 secs now(the lowest, 8.34 secs). I don't believe it was the floor matts (it's just Nissan's way of justifying their $90.00 charge). BTW, when the Maxima specialist drove my car he did over 9 secs as well. We then went over to a 2000 SE and he did just over 7 secs.

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

I took my car to the original Nissan dealer any they said the power was fine. Fortunately the second dealer did acknowledge there was a problem (but I got charged and they didn't fix it). I payed full price to Nissan for my MAX and don't think I should be paying anymore for them to probe. When I raced (at the dealer) the 2000 SE it smoked me.

Does any one have advice??!!
