Gas/Exhaust smell in the car.

Nikita has some problems with her AE and I want to know if anyone else has had these issues......

Driving down the road, she can smell exhaust and/or gas in the car. She says the stinch is really bad. If she turns on the hvac, it gets worse. Currently she has a Warpspeed y-pipe and a Cattman catback. Anyone experience this before?

this sounds like the problem I had with my Accord a few years back....gas smell, and moreso when the HVAC equipment/fan was turned on. The HVAC pulls air from in front of the windshield, so the smell is engine-area.

My bet-a bad fuel injector leaking. Take a look at the injectors and you may be able to see gasoline or residue around it. 2 of them went bad on my Honda. Never heard of this problem with Nissans, but if it can go bad on a honda, it can certainly go bad on a Nissan. Check that first.

The second one is a fuel leak someplace on the line or the rail, but I'd say that's less likely.

Also check the fuel filter and make sure the fittings are tight and not leaking.

BTW, did Nikita ever figure out that other problem she was having with the car (the one I was trying to figure out at the RCP meet)?

also, of course, make sure there's not a leak where the ypipe attaches to the exhaust manifold.....

That's one of the things i'm going to check once I get the car up in the air.

her alignment issue, not fixed but livable. the dealer said that the whole housing has shifted just enough to throw the camber out of specs. either 80 bucks to have them make modifications or live with it. she chose to live with it, it's not bad enough to wear the tire significantly so, and we're not paying nissan to touch the car which makes it livable. thanks for looking at that for her!
