2K2 MAF Fix/Replace Options

I know the MAF replacement issue has been discussed at length but I would like to clarify two separate points which I have not been able to accurately verify on the .org. I have read that I can do the following thing but would like confirmation that these steps will actually work:

1. For my 2K2 Maxima can I restore a MAF which is causing a lean condition according to the Consult II by removing the insert and cleaning it carefully with rubbing alcohol.

2. I can replace my 2K2 MAF insert with a 2K1 MAF insert so long as I replace the air temperature sensor in the 2K1 part with the temp sensor from the the 2K2 MAF before installing it in the original 2K2 tube assembly.

I know I need the new MAF it is just a question of how to spend $100 or less versus the $400+ Nissan wants for the MAF.

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

From what I've read on the .Org sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it doesn't hurt to try it.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone! Looks like I'll be getting myself a brand new 2001 MAF to use per the link Puppetmaster posted. That link should really be a "sticky" at the top of the page. Seems like the '01 part works just fine in the 3.5VQ as well . . . Awesome! Thanks again.

i also did option #2 works fine, ill be getting a buddy to update the ECM soon...

one question to those who have also done #2...

what program number did you update the ECM with? it seems the 02+ and 01 MAF is the exact same, IAT aside, so updating ECM for the 02+ p/n and program should be correct, yeah?

I never updated the ECM and my auto ran 13.3 so I don't think its necessary.

true, but im not concerned with power output at WOT (a N20 run at that, yeah?), i was more interested in teh driveability benefits.

What benefits are there of updating the ECU? Many people have done the conversion without updating and haven't had issues yet...

Btw, I believe his 13.3 is N/A and he ran a best of 12.1 with spray.

A vid of him running 12.3 is here: http://jime.homeip.net/MAXIMASE/Kill.wmv

maybe im mistaken... or just not paying attention...

its not about causing issues... im not worried about a failure or problem arising... im wanting a proper map that was created specifically for the updated MAF.

i mean, its free... im just wondering if that is indeed the correct program. if no one has done the update, how do we know were not missing something

and nice run Jime...

Well I just installed the 2K1 part in my 2K2. Seems to be working very well. The old one nearly bit the dust just before I replaced it - was on the highway and had severe loss of power throughout the rpm range. Installed the new sensor in the old housing and swapped the temp compensation sensor including soldering it in. Engine feels pretty good now!

One more note - the old sensor and the new looked identical except for the fact that the new didn't have the temp compensation.

Thanks everyone!
