On the 5.5 gens, the only exhaust mod that gains any real power is headers. It'll net around 20 whp. Nothing else helps. Intakes don't do squat either.

its all about the whole package. from "the air in" to the "air out". any one part by itself doesnt do much. if you let more air in then you need to give all that air a way to get out.
3.0 - intake + y-pipe + b-pipe + muffler = significant performance gains
3.5 - intake + headers + b-pipe + muffler = significant performance gains

Actually, the 5.5 gen muffler is a high-flow as-is. No need to change it. Intake w/ the headers, though, is the way to go. Thank god you clarified that for everyone because the noobs may have actually had to search for the answer...

replace the engine because your rings are probably shot like mine!

While you're at it, replace the tranny because mine went at 103k.

What symptoms did the tranny have when it was going out?

1-2 slip (slight) then it shifted hard for a bit, then, all of a sudden, I had no power. I parked it thinking it was the MAF, but in the morning when I went to pull out of my parking spot I discovered that I had no reverse.

Both trannys I've had did it when they were cold, but when warm they were both solid until the end of the first one. 100k on a tranny isn't too bad though.

I think Nissan totally fcked up for making a 4 spd Auto on a 255 hp car not only does the gearing suck but its not reliable people wiht 33 k have slippage

just for clarification, the 5.5 is the same as the 5th gen muffler which is also the same as the AE muffler. the difference is the exhaust tips. the muffler itself is not very restrictive but the axel over piping leading up to it sure is.

There is no such thing.... one person's opinion varies from another's...

Decide which exhaust set-up sounds best TO YOU:

Read through the other Stickies as well... they should answer more of your questions....
