90k+ miles on a 2002 way too much?
90k+ miles on a 2002 way too much?
I'm considering getting a newer maxima but being poor my budget is kind of limited.
Would you say there's anything wrong with buying a 2002 max with 90k + miles
i found a 2002 black on black leather 6spd with all options for 11,500 with 90k miles on the clock. If it's properly maintained is this too much? The owner is a salesman and drove 130 miles whenever he went to work and back on the highway. I know VQ engines are long lasting but what do i need to be watching out for? I would be coming from a 97 with 105k to a 2002 with 90k hah....

that's a pretty good deal...i bought my 02 max with about 83,000miles on it for about 12.5g's and so far the car runs very nicely...just get a tune up when you get it i guess...that's what i did and car feels like new
I'm also going to advocate getting the Max. I would try and talk them into putting some new belts on the car if they have not been changed yet. Also, see if the vehicle's service record is up to speed.
Outside of the regular maintinence that has been run, there are plenty of things the DIY mechanic can do to ensure a long, healthy life on the car. Run some Seafoam through there, run a detergent through the coolant system and flush, and run a cycle of AutoRx...Max will purr like a kitten, regardless of age.

I have to agree. I bought my 02 6 speed with 70k and it just rolled over 90k and is strong as can be. When I bought it I traded my 95 5 speed SE that had just under 200k on the clock. The motor in that car never gave me any problems and ran very strong.
I'd rather spend the money on a well maintaned Max with miles than a lower mile Cavaleer or Ford Taurus.
BTW you should be able to get the car for cheaper. If it's at a dealer they didn't pay more than $8,000 for it with the miles. Probobly less.

i went and looked at it today and it's beautiful. The owner has had 5 maximas (this the 5th) and he's taken care of it perfectly. Everything looks great. Shifts fantastically and pulls very hard with 4 people in the car even. Just needs new plugs soon and that's it. A couple small marks on the front bumper, no dings even. Offered 11,300.... it's got the works we'll see i'll let u guys know

Run a carfax on it. It's probably been smashed up before or come out of a chop shop if that is the going price.

90k is a lot of miles for an '02 but not a lot of miles for a Max. I'm w/bewst, I'd offer closer to 10,5 to start out with, but I'd def go for it.
i had 120,000 miles on my 2K 5spd when I sold it, I had to have the ranny rebuilt though though because i drove it VERY HARD. but i did regular maintence on it, never ever had a major tune up, engine purred like a kitten with the miles. Ive sold it, and since than, the guy has had no problems.

People that are afraid of 90K mile maximas make me laugh. I have 171K on mine and wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country heart beat.
Since it's a manual, just take the oil cap off, take a flashlight and look down in. If it's not all black and gunky. Buy that beast and never look back.
Cheers, Brent
