Optima Red Top Fitment Issues?

I know there was a post about the Optima Yellow Top a few days ago, but i wanted to post about the Red Top because that is what I'm considering getting in a few weeks.

I have a system, grounding kit, and HID kit and some other stuff hooked up to my battery and I want something that will power that all a bit better and turn over faster in the winter so I'm lookin at the Optima Red Tops.

I went to a local AutoZone and they showed me the battery listed for the 2000 Maxima. I brought it out to my car and the posts on the OEM battery are in the back and the posts for the one they gave me are in the front. I know the positive wire in the car will fit on the Optima posts, but i'm not sure about the negative side reaching that far up...it could be close...I wrote down the info on the top of the battery they showed me

Part No: 75/35-OR
C.A. 910
CCA 720
RC 90

Does anybody have the Optima Red Top in their 5th Gen that can comment on the Part No. being correct or any possible fitment issues? Thanks guys.

Yeah, my redtop didn't work very well. It had to be modded for it to work. The problem is with the positive terminal. It sits in about 1-2 inches further inward on the battery then the stock batt. And the connector that goes on the positive post is on a 90 deg. angle. So a bit of bending and other modification is needed to make it work. However, it is worth it.

I had a few issues until i used the battery cover underneath the battery. It gave a couple of inches of extra height and the Positive terminal popped right on there.

That doesn't make any sense to the problem in which I stated...

silvermax2k2 is correct...My optima red top 34R did not bolt right up...my positive terminal had to be modified in order to clear the battery...this is a real pain becuz I stepped into the garage thinking it was only going to take me 5 minutes to swap batteries...I ended up spending 45 minutes figuring out how to work it out...

to correct this issue....buy the optima battery that has the posts very close to the outside...that will fit on your 5th gen with no modifications

I just purchased and installed the RED TOP 34 and it was not plug and play, but I made it work. I am very pleased after making significant modifications in order to make the RED TOP 34 work with the OEM battery cover, connectors, and tie down brace.

I don't know why everybody is getting the Red Top 34 if I am interpreting the number correctly. They looked it up in the computer in front of me at Auto Zone and the match was what I put in my first post...Part No. 75/35 -OR So i guess they are telling me 35 rather than 34 like you guys were told from somewhere.

Now I remember they actually showed me a 34 and I recall the posts being where silvermax2k2 mentioned and the posts on the 35 that I looked at were more up front AND even closer to the outside of the battery than on the OEM battery, so I guess it may work without modification. The man there also told me that with the 34 you will not be getting as much power from the battery as you would with a 35, but I don't know if there is any truth in that.

The 75/35 is probably a better fit, but it was unavailable for the $112.00 I paid for the 34. I believe the 34 has 1000 CA and 800 CCAs, for the purpose fo comparison....

I purchased a 75/35 from Pep Boys earlier this year for $105. I did not need to modify anything. Here is a link that shows the post placement on the battery...http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/schema_35.asp

can anyone here say whether tahts a big difference in power? Would it actually b better to modify the 34 just to get that extra power or will we all be ok with the 35?

The 35 is powerful enough. I'll be going on my third winter with it and have never had a problem starting the car...and it gets pretty darn cold here in Wis.

Are the 5th Gen and the 5.5 Gen the same fitment concerning the battery? I'm just asking because nobody mentioned the correct fitment with a 35 who has a 00 or 01. Also, for those who have the 35 series...do you notice the supposed gains from it such as quicker starts, louder system, faster windows or anything like that? I just want to make sure it's worth the extra money. Thanks.

I believe all 5th gens including 5.5 gens have fitment issues with the 34 series...it's becuz they have that black plastic thingy that won't clear the battery stock....

I'd suggest going with the 35 series...less PITA for installation...and the extra power you get out of the 34 series will not be noticed...well I don't have any hard evident facts but I'm pretty sure it won't be noticed...its just barely weaker than the 34 series

For all of those who have any Red Top...do you think it's worth buying...Are the gains for a car like mine that has a system, aftermarket HID setup, grounding kit, and slow windows going to be noticeable? Thanks.

yes the difference is huge...especially if you have an old OEM batt...my Navi screen is much brighter after the optima + ground kit install...my cold starts are now effortless...the idle is silky smooth and so is the powerband....I say fu*k it and pay the extra $50 to get an optima over some Wal Mart battery

Haha well nothing is wrong with my original OEM battery at all...I just wanted to get the RedTop because I had heard from some people that it helped out the system/windows/HID kit but i never heard any feedback from maxima owners

The warranty is the best part. They'll replace it NO Q's asked. I doubt you'll have any problems out of it but, if it does you have the security of knowing it's covered.

I got the red top 35 from Remy online one year ago and it fit like a charm.

http://www.remybattery.com/ProductIn...oductid=35-910

No modification needed. Unfortunately looks like the price went up over 40% in one year! I paid only $83 plus shipping.

I think the only problem I had in my 5.5 is the tie down was too big since the red top is smaller then the stock battery. I had to do a little modification to it but no big deal.

Stupid question but would having this battery help with my dim climate control bulbs?

Probably not... Is your headlights, map lights, dome lights dim? If those aren't then I'm sure it's not a battery issue. You should get some new bulbs and replace em.
