Yellow Top vs. Red Top

trying to get a battery for my 2002 nissan maxima all original equipment. All the mssg. I have read on this site say to get optima yellow top. Pep Boys and Advance Auto tell me that 2002 max calls for red top. They say yellow top has more cranking at 850 but is wider and taller and will not fit in 2002 max. The red top is only 720 crank but is what is called for in the car.

We are on our fourth battery in 25k miles. In court with nissan after 8 failures and them saying it's the battery. BS. Will the red top work or do I need to make modification and get yellow top with more cranking so it won't knock out easy. Thanks

The red top ought to work fine. That's what I have and have never had any problems. There's clearly something wrong with your Max if you've gone through 4 batteries in 25K miles.

Thanks...I'm going to pick up a red top as a back up to carry in my trunk so the next time my max puts me down I will have an option to put in the new battery and get me home. I have been avoiding driving my max as much as possible because it is so unreliable but I have got to have some kind of back up so I can go out after 5:00 pm and know if the car is dead I can get home....before 5 I can at least call the dealership for a tow. What joy. I only home we can find a sensible jury that will make Nissan accountable for this. This is our 6th nissan we were loyal. Went thru the entire warranty period with the problem first occuring at 11k and 14 months ownership. Lost faith in it at 17k and lost warranty at 22k. I have actually had people who are seemingly reasonable people explain to me that I should just by an extended warranty....2k....for what 4 more batteries and the mfg. to tell us everytime it puts us down that it is battery cell/failure...they couldn't replicate/or diagnose in the first 36 months and 23k miles and now you think I should just pay 2k for more batteries or just trade it in and take all the depreciation for a car that performed for you for 11k miles.

thanks for your response.

original battery

I still have my original battery with 81k miles and mines a 2000! Sounds like something funky is going on there... Hope you do well in court...
