hella horns question..

Just got my set of hella horns supertone kit. Which horn should i put in the front near the grille. The 500hz or 300 hz? Also just confirming which terminal on the horn is ground. There are 2 and its not specified on the horn. Thanks

It's a matter of preference on which horn to put behind the grille. The 300 Hz is of deeper tone while the 500 Hz is of higher pitch.

As for the terminals, there are no polarity on those. You can plug the factory wirings to any one of the terminals and ground the other one. Have fun with the horns.

If you want to install the Hellas with the OEM horns, then I would highly recommend you to use the relay. Otherwise, you can just replace the stock horns and forget about it. The original wiring is able to support the amount of current needed by the Hellas.

You can mount both horns behind the grill correct? I just got a set of these and I am a little confused as to how to install them. I tried plugging them in directly and I got no sound... Whats the prob?

Did you just plug them in and thats it? If so, you also have to ground them from the other connector, or they will not work.

use the stock connectors on one of the terminals on the hella
ground the other terminal on the hella to any available bolt that is close to where you mount the horns

2k2 and 2k3 have both horns behind the grille. 2k and 2k1 only have 1 behind the grille. A good solid ground is essential. I ran a ground to one of the bolts by the hood latch. Scrape the paint under the bolt, too. They need good metal to metal contact to work.

If you can only mount one horn outside of the radiator, then mount the higher pitched Htz horn. Higher frequencies have a smaller sine wave and will be stopped easier by perforated objects such as the radiator. The lower frequencies are less directionally dependent.

They don't come with any wires, and the stock horns ground on themselves. To properly ground them, you have to run your own wire from the other connector on the horn to a bolt somewhere. This means you need to buy some wire, some female connectors, and some spade or ring connectors. I just ground mine at the bolt I use to attach the horn.

I bought the kit from bsetiawan on the .org. However, i am not sure if he has any left.

For those of you who mounted both horns at the front of the car, how did you go about mounting the second horn?

You can use the stock wiring to control the relay. Then power the horns using the relay. The diagram to wire up the relay is on the box.

Is there any benefit to using the relay if you're just using the Hella horns, not both Hella and stock? If I honk these loud horns when my lights are on, will the lights dim at all, or are they not that power hungry? Would installing the relay make any difference in this case?

I heard these horns sound kind of "funny" but VERY loud... can anyone comment on this? I'm not sure, but maybe I'm thinking they sound like a circus horn or something....

Mine do. They sound like 14 clowns with red floppy shoes are about to bust out of my car when I honk.

Interesting comparison. Where were yours made? The older ones are from Germany. Newer ones are from India.

Oops. My bad. I have the Greman ones and really like the way they sound. Besides being louder, do the German ones have different Hz tones? IIRC the German ones had the 2 Hz tones printed on them, but I can't recall what they were.

Metal, still can't figure out if that was a joke or what. Are you saying that your Hella Supertones sound bad, loud, or both?

This post made me laugh some Frappicinio through my noise when you mention about sounding like 14 clowns with floppy shoes. That is the funniest thing I've heard. It really sucks that when you shop around for horns, that you can't even check out the sound before purchasing it, sort of like a "sample test" like you find in Home Depot to check out the door bell chime.
