Map light rewire?

For once I couldnt find something in the stickies or by searching. Ive been thinking about rewiring the map lights near the moonroof controls to fade up and down with the dome light and I was wondering if anyone knows which wires to splice or if anyone knows of a write up. I also wanted to do the HID alarm fix and I found a few writeups for it but instead of just stopping the HIDs from flashing I want to have the high beams flash instead and none of the write ups I found go into wiring up the high beams to flash. So any help with either project would be great.

For one, I think if you want to dome light to fade out when going off, this would be controlled through the BCM (Body Control Module). Our BCM is not set up that way. The other thing about the HID's not falshing with the alarm has been discussed a number of times. If you search thru the threads, there's a number of posts about this. The re-wiring of going around the fix is rather difficult and time consuming. There are too many relays and daisy-chain circuits in our lighting system. It's possible, but it would take time in learning to bypass certain points, such as this.

What I mean is that the map lights would fade up and down simultaneously with the dome light, for example when the doors are unlocked and when the key is taken out of the ignition. I did find the threads about stopping the HIDs from flashing and easily rewired that this morning, but I couldnt find anything on substituting the high beams for the HIDs in the alarm system.

Oh, I understand what you're saying now. Yeah, the map lights are wired 12V+ unswitched. The dome light is wired both switched and unswitched. The only thing about this mod, is that you would have to read the electrical diagram in the service manual to see how these function when operational. It's basically all in the path of the "ground" leads. The lights operate depending on the signal path of the ground. Again, this is cotrolled by the BCM. Anytime you mess with any circuits in the BCM, it's a good idea that nothing goes wrong because the BCM is sensitive to this kind of stuff and could possibly ruin the the whole circuit(s) in its path ruining it for good.
