Lowering your car.....

I want my car lowered but I want it to be where I can go back to stock when ever I wanted because of the incline of my driveway. Now would it be better to get Airbags or hydrolics? I was told I could get springs and use a wrench to raise and lower it when ever but I really dont want to do all that work. Plus I cant stand gettin gout of cars that are low to the ground its a *ish.

You mean coilovers?

Your best bet is to leave it stock, or move... or get springs that aren't extremely low, and are safe for your driveway.

Airbags, hydraulics etc are all IMO

Coilovers are good too, but having t raise and lower everytime you went home would be st00pid.

just get a mild drop (Maxspeeds, H&R or Tein H-Tech) and you won't have any problems with driveways.

Coilovers you can raise and lower with the wheel off

tein makes a coilover that is electrically adjustable IIRC

air bags are

hydraulics are :

Tein makes coilovers (SS for the 5th gen) that have dampening that is electronically adjustable. The height is not electronically adjustable.

airbags suck performance-wise, and there is really, truly no need to have your car go higher and lower.....just go diagonally up your driveway

that, and they're just plain unless you're rolling in the old-school coupe deville or impala or something...

Hmmm, spend thousands on a new driveway or a couple of hundred for new suspension?

I like the look of the stock car but I like the look it the car lowered, I just dont like getting out of lowered cars, so I would like to be able to raise and lower the height of the car when ever I wanted. I like the show factor of raising the back end of my car and lowering the front when some *ick wants to race me at a light. Thanks for the help but im going to get the bags or canovers. You can lock this thread...I didnt get the information I was looking for.

What are you talking about? Is an inch and a half really going to make that much of a difference for you to get in and out of your car? C'mon now, I can understand like five inches, but with something like eibach springs which are 1.3 in the front and 1 in the back, you won't notice anything.

even with most spring setups ud be fine with most driveways. the 4x4 height isnt totally cured with most springs, imo. ud stil have decent clearance

hope u dont have a driveway like this...http://www.yukoneer.com/misc/steep_d...driveway05.jpg

having your boyfriend's pic as an avatar = . "BFF right, tim?"

let the dude bag his car if he's got a good price on the parts. don't buy a kit, just mix and match the compressor, tank, lines and valves to your liking. none of the all inclusive packages you can purchase have worked well for me straight out of the box. either the compressor wasnt big enough or not enough valves, etc.

I saw an episode of Horsepower TV once and they compared an air ride suspension to a conventional suspension set up and the air bags actually had better times thru the slalom course.

Here's an idea.... I'm no supporter of an airbag setup for performance use, but hear me out here.

How bout only using the bags to lift the car up and get it into the driveway. Go ahead and lower it on eibachs, or whatever, then apply the airbags to where, when deflated all the way, the car uses nothing but the eibachs. Plus, imagine being able to lift the rear of your car up a bit at the track to keep from spinning the tires on launch.....HA, i say go for it!

i saw that show as well, they were using a very different type of air ride, they were using for a performance aspect, the ones for show are much cheaper. and dont ride nearly as well.

I am dropped 2.5-3.0" on D2's and I dont scrape when I go into steep driveways. I cannot imagine you having a problem dropped 1.3" on H&R's...

upstate whats the lowest part of ur car, im even lower than u, my bumpers got clearance, well most of the time, but my flexsection of my y-pipe has gotten its share of abuse. its by far the lowerst part followed by the formost for-aft "cross"member

I removed my crossmembers after the header install. My y-pipe had never hit, because the engine brace is lower (that has never hit either). I would have to say that the engine brace is the lowest part left on my car...

I was leaning towards $100 or less for redoing the driveway ramp seeing that I was able to replace my entire driveway for under $1200
