Engine vibrates excessively at Low rpm in park or drive.

All of a sudden I get into my car and start it up and I feel this vibration that shakes the whole car. I start driving and its gets better , but as soon as I stop at red light vibration comes back, it feels as though the engine will stall. Plus the engine revs past 3k rpm but with difficulty, car feels much slower. I never had this before. There is No SES light. All the scheduled maintainance was done. Car has 95k mi, auto trans, stock air filter, throttle body was cleaned at 65k mi.

Thanks guys, as soon as i noticed that rough idle i thought it might be the maf , but then I thought faulty MAF wont let the car rev past 2500 rpm, mine revved close to 4000 rpm ( even though it took a while ), i just checked it.

So once the MAF starts going bad, how long do I have before car will completely be undrivable. Also since that MAF part number in the stickies, includes the housing, is it possible to just unscrew the new sensor and screw it into the old housing? I dont have to tools at this time to take out the whole intake.

when I had to replace mine the car would not rev past 5k rpm

it will not happen instantly, I think you got at least 2 - 3 weeks, probably even longer.

You don't need to take out the whole intake. Unskrew those 4 bolts that hold MAF in place and put the new one in.

Update: As I was driving to get the MAF, the TCS, SLIP, and SES lights came on. So i remembered these means failed coil packs. I bought 6 of them put them in and car runs great no more vibration. I still bought the MAF, will install it later.

The SES light however didn't go off, will it go off later as i drive or I have to reset ecu?

You probably need to reset the ECU, but my advise, do NOT take it to the dealer to pay the ridiculous amount, clearing the code from AUTOZONE for free will do the same thing no matter what anyone tells you...

I disconnected the battery, hopefully that will clear the code.

In a 2k or 2k1, it should do the trick.

disconnecting the battery works as well... the only problem is resetting all your fav radio stations... and the clock, but either that or the AUTOZONE option are free, just dont pay the dealership one penny for doing the same thing.

Hah. I came in here to say the coils are causing vibration -- a MAF wouldn't do that. But the MAF is causing the poor power past 3K RPMs.

I was just curious, it's not that I have to do it. Thanks though.
