Steering wheel off center... ???
Steering wheel off center... ???
All
I noticed yesterday while travelling down Rt 1 that I was holding my steering wheel about 5-7 degrees to the left to keep the car straight. I straighened it up and the car definetly and noticably pulled into the right lane. I thought at first it may have been the camber of the road, but I tested this in several different lanes and on several different roads and found I had the same issue.
I recently installed my new suspension (Illuminas and H&R's) and also just had a set of WinterContacts installed on my 17' Se rims. I had the car alligned 4 days after the suspension was installed (About 2 weeks ago).
I made sure to take my front strut bar off before the alignment to ensure no issues with it.
Im looking for any thoughts on what this could be... I seriously dont think the alignment could go out that quickly and I have not hit anything. Is it just poor alignment? Or something else.

Yes I had that problem as well.........I got it aligned same problem. So I had the tires rotated and the tire guy said most likely I have radial pull in my new tires, different tire locations on the car changed the direction it pulled.

"Radial pull" is another condition that is tire-related. Sometimes a variation in a tire's construction creates conicity in the tire that causes it to pull to one side. The pull will remain to the same side whether the vehicle is being driven forwards or backwards. If you suspect a tire is pulling, switch the front tires side-to-side and see if the direction of the pull changes. If it does, the tire is to blame.
The cure here is to replace the bad tire, or if the customer's budget can't afford a new one, move the bad tire to the spare position or rear axle where hopefully it will have less of an effect on the steering.
Radial pull can also be caused by misalignment of the plies inside a tire. This creates a sideways push that causes the vehicle to drift to one side. If switching the front tires left-to-right causes the direction of the drift to change, you've diagnosed the problem.

I've had my STB on my car for...ever now and had several alignments and I've been just fine.

when they put the rubber on the rims if the tire doesnt not seal completely perfect it will pull. becuase mine did that after i had it aligned and when i took it back the guy re-sealed the tires for me and then i was good as new

I had the same problem with my car when I put new wheels and tires on it. I had an alignment done and then I went and tested it out to see if the problem went away, but it didn't, so I rotated the tires and the car drives straight now. My dad said it was a problem with the tire and when I take off the rims for the winter we will replace the tire.
I got the same problem too, I taught it was the road condition, b/c sometime it pull to left and sometime different direction and I notice the road pavement was uneven, is that it or something else? anyhow what cause the vibration on steering wheel 60-75 range?had no problem before the new set of tire and wheel.

I checked the tires, seeing as they are asymetrical I figured they may have the tread patterns fudged up. Surely Enough, both front tires have their patterns facing one way, instead of opposing. I believe this is the culprit and I will talk to my Tire place about having it fixed.

I had the same problem before and after my suspension install, and after getting an alignment done. Its much less with my new tires, but after seeing how many have the problem, I suppose that its normal
many things contribute, especially air in tires and if u are driving on an even road. most of the people don't know, but alignment consists of several things. i myself have done alignments, and that is the tedious part. first u do camber, then toe. might even do caster, but after camber, u do a specific type of toe adjustment called 'WINTOE." that adjusts toe AND steering wheel position. the guy that aligned it for u must've been lazy or inexperienced, because when u adjust toe, u have to make sure that everything stays in position. it is a very tedious process and i have had to fix alignments several times on the same vehicle to fix that problem. go back and tell them. it is a simple alignment problem.
