Battery Acid Resistant Paint

Recently replaced the battery on my '03 SE. Discovered some corrosion on the black hold down bar and on the gray mounting shelf (under the plastic tray). It's not bad, but some paint is gone and there is a bit of rust. Want to nip this in the bud by painting.

Any suggestions for painting these areas? Something which will adhere through any remaining acid and which will be acid resistant? Checked some parts stores but didn't find anything which specifically mentions this issue or application.

Any hints or suggestions on the process? Of course I will sand down the affected areas. Are there any neutralizers I should use? The top hold down bar I can remove and spray paint for an even finish. I'm not going to mask off the whole area to spray the tray, especially since you can't see it. Looking for something there with a brush on application.

Interestingly, while I have corrosion in these areas, the nuts and threaded hook rods are in perfect shape.

You won't find a paint that can readily resist acid. Acid will eat just about anything, especially sulfuric from the battery. As far as cleaning the area, yes you should neutralize the area for any remaining acid. Water should be fine for this. Sand the area down to make the primer/paint stick, clean off dust, then spray down the area (masking what you don't want painted). As far as a particular paint check for some industrial grade, it might hold up longer. BTW...you shouldn't have any acid leaking, bad battery? Accidently overfill? Check that first....

Don't remember any specific incident of overfilling the battery. Regularly checked and topped off and may have sometime without noticiting it.

New battery is sealed so I won't have top offs in the future. Reduces chance of spills.
